So much written lately about over-tourism, that it's great to see this Italian example of destination development - managing and spreading tourism more evenly, and diversifying the 'offer' - in this case landscape, history, agri-tourism and conservation: https://lnkd.in/gpe-UPSn

The 2024 Ocean Decade Conference is happening from 10-12 April as part of #OceanDecadeWeek in Barcelona. This gathering of the global ocean community will feature interactive sessions, satellite events, and 100 presentations highlighting concrete ocean-based initiatives and solutions for this #OceanDecade. Peace Parks Foundation is committed to conservation at scale. We have learned that scientific knowledge and experience are key to supporting resilient communities and creating healthy ecosystems. For #NatureWithoutBorders to flourish across southern Africa, people, protected areas and wildlife rely on healthy oceans to mitigate the effects of climate change and sustain vital natural resources. Our Strategy 2030 aligns crucially with global targets to safeguard 30% of terrestrial and marine environments by 2030, and we are proud to be invested in worldwide ocean science, dialogue and action. Stay tuned for Peace Parks’ Ocean Decade Week stories from the magnificent Parque Nacional de Maputo’s coastal and marine protected area and follow UN Ocean Decade for updates and insights from the conference. 🌊🌍🐠 UNESCO UNEP-WCMC Blue Action Fund Livaningo ONG ADRA Deutschland e.V. Scotland Beyond Net Zero seed fund awarded to "Electric Wallpaper for Clean Heating: A Pilot Study" We are delighted to learn this truly innovative programme led by Ahmad Taha, PhD of University of Glasgow and Alejandro Moreno Rangel of University of Strathclyde has been awarded funding from the the Scotland Beyond Net Zero Seed Fund. Their project aims to conduct a pilot study to evaluate the performance of EWP technology in pre 1919 tenements in Glasgow using cutting edge monitoring technology empowered by the Internet-of-Things and AI-enabled data analytics. Data will be collected via a smart sensor system from 12 properties, owned by WSHA, that already have EWP installed and advanced analytics and forecasting will be applied to generate insights on heating levels, heat retention, and energy consumption taking into account tenants’ comfort level and feedback. The project has received wide media attention which you can access in Ahmad's post below 👇 The SBNZ Seed Fund was established to foster collaborations and partnerships between universities and external organisations to drive innovative research and solutions that contribute to Scotland’s journey towards achieving net zero. 👏 👏 👏 #sustainableenergy #netzero https://lnkd.in/ew6qP5WY

🔊 Funding Announcement - "Can Heating via Electric Wallpaper Support NetZero Efforts and Reduce your Bills?" Grateful to have secured funding from Scotland Beyond Net Zero alongside Alejandro Moreno Rangel from the University of Strathclyde to work with West of Scotland Housing Association and Glasgow City Council to explore the potential of "Electric Wallpaper (Infrared-based heating)" in replacing gas central heating as part of our efforts to contribute to Scotland's journey towards a #NetZero future. This study is one of several pilots that we are working on at the University of Glasgow relating to cyber-physical systems supporting the energy transition. ✨ I am thrilled to see the project getting excellent news coverage (radio interviews, TV broadcasts, and over 180 articles) from various channels including BBC Scotland BBC News The London Standard The Herald Scotland STV Group plc The Independent and several others. Special thanks to Aelred Nicholas for her tremendous efforts and leading role in supporting this amazing media coverage. 🧐 Many people are beginning to understand, that our current way of living will come to an end, as it is extractive and not in line with nature, which we are a part of, whether we like it or not. 💡 Nate Hagens has established the concept of "energy blindness", meaning that current models - especially economic theory - just ignore the need for energy in their theoretical calculations, referring to "Labour / Soil / Capital" as the 3 common factors of production and using energy only by it's cost of extraction. 💵 Thomas Schindler is building on this thought, pointing out the self-destructing effects of the current system, that actually (1) doubles the amount of money every 10 years (2) doubles GDP every 20 years and (3) doubles energy every 30 years on a global scale. Based on materials available and CO2-levels, this model will not be able to last, which contradicts the current greent-tech VC phantasies. 🌞 He proposes a concept called "heliogenesis", which is based in the simple natural concept, that uses sunlight as the source of energy to build and run organic organisms. He suggests an open concept in natural materials, based on the philosophy of "freeware" in the tech space. 😍 Please check out his TED Conferences talk in Berlin and get inspired. #sinnfluencer #visionary #heliogenesis #energy #nature #learnfromnature #humanity #future #thinkoutsidethebox #tech #energyblindness https://lnkd.in/gzBXEWCt

🌍 The Impact of the Meetings Industry: What Matters Most? As professionals in the meetings industry, it's crucial to understand the multifaceted impacts our events have on the world. 1️⃣ Direct Expenditure: This involves the spending by all exhibitors at events, including hotels, event organizers, convention centers, and more. 2️⃣ Indirect Expenditure: This includes the suppliers, such as accommodation, transport, technical equipment, and catering services. 3️⃣ Multiplicative Effects: Our industry creates full-time and part-time jobs, generating income and tax revenue at local and national levels. 4️⃣ Regenerative Effects: The ripple effects of our industry touch science, tourism, culture, and sustainability by fostering new technologies, encouraging scientific research, promoting local culture, and supporting local self-sufficiency. As event organizers, we have a unique opportunity and responsibility to drive change. Let's design events that embody social and environmental equality and inspire our attendees to do the same. Together, we can shoulder the burden of climate change and lead the way toward a sustainable future. This needs so much more attention. These problems can be solved, but first we need to be able to look at the problem without wincing away and analyze the data. I'm super optimistic for ocean based solutions for carbon removal, biodiversity support, and marine infrastructure to support clean energy and sustainable marine agriculture. We need to leverage the expertise of the old oil and gas industry with their floating platforms and build big in the ocean with permanent projects to host ocean clean up and circular economies surrounding holistic solutions. It's really time to go all in on all the solutions. Howard Dryden has excellent plans for affordable water treatment lagoons throughout the world but we really must do all of the above. I appreciate he has been at this much longer than I have been. He is one expert who has developed a tangible solution. I really believe essentially all of the solutions to world problems have been developed and there are so many aimless people lamenting about the problems in the world without any focus on what those problems are specifically and without realizing that we have everything we need to solve them. Once we reach a critical mass of people waking up to connecting the dots I believe the world will rapidly transform to realizing #worldpeaceispossible and that solving the climate and ecological crisis is the path to an abundant and free society.
Marine pollution and the life support system for the planet The www.GoesFoundation.com ran one of the largest citizen science projects to study oceanic marine productivity and pollution. You may find it hard to believe but there has never been a study of ocean surface water with analysis down to 20 microns. We had 50 plus blue ocean yachts sampling twice a day as they crossed oceans. The results were horrific, but they have been total ignored or dismissed by the academics. This tragic because there is so much good work conducted by very skilled and proficient skippers of blue water yachts. One of the best is Stephan Flos, and I include a link to his observations and results with GOES. Global Oceanic Environmental Survey. Stephan Flos https://lnkd.in/ei-96Eri
