At the National Coal Mining Museum, keeping history alive means having reliable communication, but ongoing phone outages were preventing that. To tackle this, they teamed up with Time Communications and implemented a cloud-powered Sangoma FreePBX VoIP system. This included 55 advanced handsets and a top-notch reception console, ensuring year-round connectivity. The results speak for themselves: ✅ Zero Outages: No more seasonal interruptions. ✅ Clear Communication: Incoming and outgoing calls are now crystal clear, every day of the year. ✅ Cost Savings: The museum will save at least 20% on telephony bills with reduced line rentals and lower call charges. ✅ Seamless Support: A unified system means one point of contact for all support needs. Automating the mining industry Mine operators face significant challenges with radio propagation and modelling network coverage in open pit mines. Managing the constant changes in the mine terrain is no mean feat, but companies like BHP use ATDI to help. ATDI supplied an automation platform based on its in-house RF planning tool, HTZ Communications to undertake routine radio network planning. The platform schedules and automates processes like collecting new GIS information on the mine’s terrain from a local database and updating the digital terrain model in HTZ to reflect the changes in the mine. This process automatically triggers coverage calculation predictions for their RF networks, including TETRA, DMR, WIFI, P2P, LTE, PMP and line-of-sight analysis. Automation removes the complexity from repetitive tasks, allowing mining companies to focus on their core business. The system triggers email notifications which provide real-time updates on the network and interfaces with their core NMS server. The updated network coverages are automatically created providing an instant view of network status. The platform gives regular network performance reviews and assists with troubleshooting real-time measurements. The traditional mining industry encounters significant challenges, including barriers between underground communication and the management center and difficulties in ensuring the safety of underground mining operators away from unexpected emergencies such as collapse, landslides, water leaks, and oxygen deficiency. To break the barriers and enhance operators' safety, the utilization of advanced digital technologies is crucial in the traditional mining industry. The integration of 5G and AI is indispensable in this digital transformation of coal mining. Fibocom is thrilled to collaborate with Sany to implement the 5G AR glasses built-in with Fibocom 5G smart module SC171 in smart mining. Fibocom SC171 features a high-end CPU and GPU, ensuring smooth 5G data transmission and superior multimedia playback capabilities. Additionally, by leveraging the high speed and ultra-reliable low latency of 5G, the 5G mining AR glasses enable real-time monitoring and 4K video playback, assisting operators in transmitting real-time data through intelligent patrol systems, thereby enhancing operational safety. Furthermore, AR technology enables collaboration between front-line mining operators and remote experts in equipment failure or emergencies, eliminating communication barriers.
