A paper from the Productivity Commission highlighted that small charities are the most common in Australia, but many are stretched and are reliant on philanthropic giving. The report found that among the 60,000 plus registered charities in Australia, over half of all charities operate without paid staff. On average, charities with revenue under $250,000 receive 40% of their total revenue from donations, as opposed to grants or selling goods and services.
