I'm pleased to announce that the House of Commons Liaison Committee report on "Promoting national strategy: How select committee scrutiny can improve strategic thinking in Whitehall" was published today. 🔷 It featured my insights as a School of International Futures (SOIF) Next Generation Champion, where I emphasised the importance of adaptable leadership and intergenerational dialogue in shaping effective policy alongside other incredible contributors such as Sophie Howe, Sophie Daud, Apolitical, RAND Europe, Restless Development and more. 🔷 In particular, the report calls for long-term planning and transparency, aligning with advocacy for intergenerational fairness. The inclusion of this work, with the context of further United Nations deliberations shows the global significance and possibilities. As such, it's been an honour to contribute to these discussions both nationally and internationally. Institute for Citizens & Scholars launched the series “Preamble” to hear from diverse leaders—particularly those you might not expect—about their ideas for shaping a more perfect Union. Baratunde Thurston's interview with Rajiv V. taps into something simple but deeply meaningful. If we take “citizen” as a verb and not a noun, it means showing up. It means taking action. “It means committing to the collective, not just individual self, that we see ourselves as part of something greater than just ourselves and our families.” Take a look. https://lnkd.in/gduY2Xwt

👉 One to add to your holiday listening line up! 📱 Professor Terry Flew's Time for Trust Podcast with Tom Burton on building trust by making governments deliver. Only 50% of Australians trust our governments, according to the Edelman Trust barometer from March this year. And even fewer of us #trust the media – just 40%. Furthermore, 59% of Australian worry that government, business leaders, journalists & reporters are deliberately trying to mislead people. And in a time of rapid change, none of these four institutions is trusted to integrate #innovation into #society. Clearly, our institutions have much to do if they’re going to rebuild this trust, and take society with them on the necessary journey of innovation. Tom Burton argues that by focusing on delivery and embracing #digitaltransformation, governments across the political spectrum can become highly effective and be perceived as such. But in order to achieve this, #government, the #media and #academia will all need to lift their game. 👉 https://lnkd.in/eAM9UMwH University of Sydney Arts and Social Sciences - University of Sydney Producer: Dr Dom Knight

Recently, I had the privilege to engage in a thought-provoking group discussion where we explored critical questions surrounding Sustainable Development Goal 16: Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions, focusing on: ➖How marginalized communities can be empowered to participate in decision-making processes. ➖Ways to promote transparency and accountability in governance. ➖Strengthening institutions to support human rights and the rule of law. Our discussion highlighted the importance of inclusive participation, transparent governance, and strong institutions in creating peaceful, just societies. Stay tuned for more insights from our conversation! 💬 This project was completed under the guidance of Ms. Shaimina C with contributions from Ashirvad dubey , Srishti Singh , Sahil Kaushik , Nakul Bhar, and myself. #peaceandjustice #humanrights #stronginstitutions #governance #groupdiscussion #sustainabledevelopmentgoals

Political division in the United States has reached troubling heights, and it’s not just about differing opinions—𝒊𝒕'𝒔 𝒂 𝒕𝒉𝒓𝒆𝒂𝒕 𝒕𝒐 𝒅𝒆𝒎𝒐𝒄𝒓𝒂𝒄𝒚. Researcher Chiara Vargiu outlines three reasons why this division is so dangerous: 1️⃣ Little shared identity between groups People see fewer similarities with those who think differently, reducing empathy and understanding. 2️⃣ More extreme political views Parties are becoming more radical, focusing less on bridging divides and more on solidifying their base. 3️⃣ Political choices become personal Opponents are seen as threats to values, culture, or ways of life, further deepening the ‘us versus them’ mentality. These factors create a vicious cycle: less dialogue, fewer compromises, and an increasingly dysfunctional political landscape. 💬 What do you think is the path toward restoring shared understanding in polarised societies?

Scott Galloway's recent presentation was a masterclass in blending humor with hard-hitting analysis as he tackled the significant economic and social inequalities facing younger generations today. With a rapid-fire delivery of examples, Galloway deftly outlined how systemic issues, such as skyrocketing housing costs and soaring educational expenses, disproportionately challenge the youth, suggesting that our society might be failing to make necessary investments in our future. Armed with a mixture of compelling statistics and personal stories, Scott builds a strong case that modern economic policies and societal norms often benefit older generations at the expense of younger ones. His provocative questions and bold statements were designed not just to inform but to spark a serious conversation about our societal priorities - do we truly value our children's futures, or are we stuck in a cycle of privilege and hardship? Galloway’s call to action was unequivocal: it's time to reevaluate and overhaul policies to forge a fairer future. He didn’t just criticize; he also offered concrete solutions, like tweaking Social Security and broadening access to education, aimed directly at correcting the disparities he spotlighted. His talk was a clarion call, pushing for immediate, thoughtful action to address the injustices that could potentially compromise the well-being of future generations.
