Strong institutions and access to justice are the foundation of peaceful societies. Corruption, conflict, and lack of accountability undermine progress, leaving communities vulnerable. SDG 16 emphasizes the need for transparent governance, protection of human rights, and equitable justice systems. Let’s work towards a future where everyone has a voice and a chance to thrive. 🌟 🌐 Learn how we’re advancing SDG 16 and how you can support this mission: https://lnkd.in/d3Ky_vHD #SDG16 #PeaceAndJustice #RuleOfLaw #Transparency #Accountability #NPPI #NexusPublicPolicyInstitute #Nexus

SDG 16, "Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions," aims to promote peaceful, inclusive societies, provide access to justice for all, and build effective, accountable institutions at all levels. This goal focuses on reducing violence, combating organized crime, addressing corruption, and ensuring transparency and inclusivity in governance. Strengthening the rule of law and promoting human rights are also vital components of SDG 16, as they foster sustainable development and equitable growth. Thank you Khadija Hashmi for joining with us and giving us a amazing session. We are happy to have had a great discussion session on promoting peace, justice, and building resilient institutions. As part of the SIRGE Coalition, we also welcome the UN Secretary-General's Panel's new set of recommendations on #TransitionMinerals to uphold #IndigenousPeoples' rights. However, there are crucial considerations that are needed in the implementation phase to ensure a #JustTransition , including making #IndigenousSelfDetermination central and legally binding #FreePriorAndInformedConsent (#FPIC). #IndigenousRights #EnvironmentalJustice Read the #SIRGECoalition’s full recommendations in their recent statement: https://lnkd.in/e3KyD8rC

Grateful for the European Union delegation to the UN for hosting a discussion on the most recent draft of the outcome of the Summit of the Future (Rev.1) – the Pact for the Future. The Summit will take place on 22-23 September at the United Nations in New York. Very important inputs from various stakeholders. Amb. Stavros Lambrinidis, Head of EU Delegation to the UN, made an impassioned plea for strong language on (all) human rights without singling anyone out. I suggested language on targets for the number of people with unresolved justice needs and for the number of violent deaths – which both meet the criteria of being concrete and action-oriented – and on the prevention of violence in all its forms as a universal imperative for all Member States (where effective, accountable and inclusive institutions are critical, including justice institutions). #SDG16 #SDGs #RuleofLaw #RoL #OurCommonFuture

Participated in a Panel Discussion on "SDG 16 in Action: Realizing the Rule of Law and Equal Access to Justice" at the 3rd International Conference on Social Work, Law, and Human Rights, held on March 16-17, 2024, at GNLU. Addressed some critical questions about the importance of SDG 16 in promoting the rule of law and equal access to justice. Delved into the role of victim support services in enhancing well-being and recovery and the collaborative efforts needed between governmental agencies, NGOs, and community-based initiatives to strengthen victim support networks and advance SDG 16's targets. SDGs' political nature and hierarchical structure were emphasised while exploring these questions. #SDG16.3 #RuleOfLaw #AccessToJustice #VictimSupportServices #Collaboration #NGOs #CommunityInitiatives
