A long read of a scientific article! Brilliant news though! The presence of multiple pesticide residues in vegetables has become an increasingly critical concern. Preferable would be a reduction of pesticide use in the first place, by adopting integrated pest management or organic methods of growing crops. 🚦#Pesticides Use🚦 Did you know that pesticides can kill if wrongly used? Well, I knew this from a tender age but it was evident at 8 years of age when my grandma committed suicide consuming some. 🟢🟢🟢 Pesticides (synthetic/organic) are meant to help in management of pests and diseases for optimum production of crops. However if wrongly used they have a potential of causing death. As an agronomist, 📢 please let the farmers know that: 📌 Part of their products consumers lives lies on their hands. How they grow theirs crops has an impact on their health too 🥙🥣. 📌 Reading and understanding the Pesticide Label before use is important. 🟠🟠🟠 Pesticide Label highlights 🍅 Preharvest Interval ✓ Observe the indicated PHI for effective management of pesticide residues in the produce. 🥦 ai ✓ Use pesticides with a different Active Ingredient in a sequence to control development of pesticide resistance among pests. 🟩 Appropriate protective clothing - PPE (use) ✓ To prevent exposure of the sprayer to pesticide during the application process. ♦️Toxicity levels ✓ Understand the color band - 🔴🟡🔵🟢 💧Rates of application - ✓Use the correct pesticides dilution rates. 🏞️ Adhere to the listed handling instructions /pictograms ✓ Environmental hazard and first aid measures 🌹Re-entry intervals observance - to protect lives from exposure to pesticides. In nutshell, let's use the pesticides correctly (if need there be) to preserve life. #agriculture #horticulture #floriculture #pesticides #environment #farmers #farming

As a farmer, keeping your crops healthy and free from harmful pests is a no-brainer. However, the use of pesticides can be a daunting and time-consuming task. Furthermore, finding the correct pesticide labels is crucial. Fortunately, there is HortiPeMS. HortiPeMS has a robust database containing well over 140,000 pesticides and is constantly growing, with links to each pesticide's current and historical labels. Read More:

These two days the African Union is holding a Soil and Fertilizer conference in Nairobi without a consideration about the the health, safety and environmental damage caused by Fertilizers. All the top ministers from African States agreeing to increase their use of fertilizers to overcome land degradation!!I believe that anti pesticide/herbicide/fertilizer scientists will be the targeted and maybe discredited ( eg Julian Assange). This poisoning of humans and land is going on unhindered on a global scale # Africa Union # pesticide and fertilizer toxicity #agribusiness

Good news that the Government is planning to end the use of toxic #neonicotinoid #pesticides that threaten vital pollinators. Despite being banned from general use in the UK, the use of neonicotinoids was authorised every year for the last four years in England via a process known as emergency authorisation. Bees and other pollinators are crucial to the agricultural economy with the economic benefits of pollination to crop production in the UK estimated at £500 million annually. https://lnkd.in/eh77heXX

Certainly#Francis Bosah chemical inputs in any form to humans and animals (e.g antibiotics) and the #environment particularly #soil have increasingly led to resistance by microbes. #Sustainable farming practices that uses natural selection process of plant growth promoting rhizobacteria #PGPR that secretes biopesticides as a strategy to survive #competition with other organisms is the way forward.

The 50% Resistance Rate: How Pesticide Re-engineering is Losing the Battle Against Pests 🐜💣 The alarming rise of pesticide-resistant pests has reached a critical tipping point. With over 50% of the 1,000 identified pest species now resistant to one or more #pesticides (Carrière et al., 2010), the consequences for global #foodsecurity, human health & the environment are dire. Trajectories of pesticide resistance: The Evolution of Resistance🐜🔬 Pesticide resistance is an evolutionary process that occurs when pests are exposed to #chemicalpesticides. The repeated use of these chemicals selects for individuals with #genetictraits that confer resistance, allowing them to survive and reproduce. Over time, resistant populations become dominant, rendering the pesticide ineffective (Tabashnik et al., 2014) Drivers of Resistance 🚗💨 Several factors contribute to the rapid development of pesticide resistance: 1. Overuse and misuse of #pesticides: The widespread & indiscriminate use of chemical pesticides accelerates the selection of resistant #pests (Gassmann et al., 2018) 2. Lack of crop rotation and diversification: #MonocultureFarming practices and inadequate crop rotation enable pest populations to adapt & develop resistance (Karp et al.,2018) 3. Inadequate IPM: Failure to implement holistic IPM strategies that prioritize cultural, biological & ecological controls, while relegating synthetic inputs, can exacerbate pest resistance & ecosystem disruption (Nicholls & Altieri,2018) Consequences of Resistance🌪️💥 The implications of #pesticideresistance are far-reaching and devastating: 1. Reduced crop yields & quality: Resistant pests can cause significant damage to #crops, leading to reduced yields and lower quality produce (Cunningham et al., 2018) 2. Increased pesticide use: The development of resistance often leads to increased pesticide applications, exacerbating #EnvironmentalPollution & human health risks (Horrigan et al., 2002) 3. Economic losses: #PesticideResistance can result in substantial economic losses for #farmers, the agricultural industry & the global economy (Pimentel et al., 2010) A New Paradigm for Pest Management: Microbe-Powered & #RegenerativeAgriculture🌱🔄 To combat the rising tide of pesticide resistance, a fundamental shift in pest management strategies is essential. Microbe-powered & #regenag offer a powerful solution: 🍄Microbe-Powered Pest Control: Beneficial microbes can be used to control pests, reducing the need for #chemicalpesticides (Berg et al.,2017) 🐞Regenerative #Agriculture: Regen ag practices, such as #agroforestry, #permaculture, and cover cropping, can enhance #ecosystem services, promote #biodiversity & reduce pesticide reliance (LaCanne et al.,2017) 🍄#SoilHealth & Microbiome: Focusing on soil health & microbiome can help to promote plant immunity, reduce pest pressure & mitigate the need for pesticides (Toledo-Hernández et al.,2017). 🌎💡 Let's install microbe-powered #PestManagement!
