🚨 New Publication Alert! 🚨 Excited to share that our latest paper, "Provider Perspectives on Maternal Care Challenges for Black and Latine Women in Indiana: A Qualitative Interview Study," has just been published in Sexual and Reproductive Health Matters! 📄 Read the Article here: https://lnkd.in/g_JQtthm In this study, we explored the pressing challenges that maternal healthcare providers observe Black and Latine women face in Indiana—a state with one of the highest maternal mortality rates in the country. From structural barriers like obstetric racism and citizenship restrictions to a shortage of racially and culturally representative providers and transportation access issues, our findings emphasize the urgent need for multilevel interventions that go beyond personal responsibility to address systemic and organizational issues. This paper is my first collaboration with my Ph.D. advisor, Dr. Lucía Guerra Reyes, and colleagues Rossmary D. Marquez, MPH, and Oakley Byrne , and I am looking forward to expanding our research on equity in women’s health. 🌍💪 #MaternalHealth #HealthEquity #BlackMaternalHealth #LatineMaternalHealth #PublicHealthResearch #NewPublication

Physicians and experts discuss the Black maternal health crisis faced by mothers and their children. Panelists examine why Black women are three times more likely to die from a pregnancy-related cause than white women in addition to the various factors that contribute to these inequities. In addition, panelists discuss how social determinants of health prevent many racially and ethnically marginalized and minoritized people from having equitable opportunities for physical, mental, and emotional health. Lastly, panelists explore the solutions needed to transform the maternal health care system. We absolutely, positively have to do much better than we are doing across the Country here, and especially with minority populations that sharply lag even these overall numbers. In 2021, the U.S. rate of maternal mortality was 32.9 per 1000 live births. (1) The CDC in 2023 reports that the mortality rate among black women in the U.S. was a shocking 69.9 per 1,000 live births. (1) Totally and completely unacceptable by any form of measure or calculus. Australia, Spain, and Israel were 2-3 deaths per 100,000 overall! (1) All of these precious children and their brave mothers are our future. (1) Data Source: (www.npr.com 2023/03/16 And CDC 2023)

Dear MS, Racial disparities exist. Black women are three times more likely to die from a pregnancy-related cause than white women. Social determinants of health prevent many people from racial and ethnic minority groups from having fair opportunities for economic, physical, and emotional health. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), multiple factors contribute to disparities that result in continuous highly rated Black maternal mortality rates, including: Quality healthcare Underlying chronic conditions Structural racism Implicit bias Today, International Day for Maternal Health and Rights, is just the beginning of this acknowledgment, kicking off Black Maternal Health Week, which continues until April 17. Adequate birthing support includes a medical representative who listens to their patients to decrease Black maternal death. We need help with this in Mississippi, a place where maternal mortality rates tend to tinker between first and top 10 annually. Black Mamma’s Matter Alliance (BMMA), the founder of Black Maternal Health Week, has themed this year’s week, “Our Bodies STILL Belong to Us: Reproductive Justice NOW!” Take this week to call your local representative to let them know what we need: access to abortion care, Medicaid expansion, and doctors who listen to our concerns. Equity in health care means complete health care for trans people, of all ages.
The Hormone Expert, International Trans Rights Advocate, Speaker, Writer, Broadcaster, Entrepreneur & Founder of the ground breaking informatics company GenderGP. Never Gives Up Never Backs Away From What’s True & Right
Dr Helen Webberley, one of the world’s leading trans healthcare and hormone experts, says “It’s time for the British Medical Association to call upon the General Medical Council to take urgent action and create the education and healthcare standards that are required to meet the needs of the unrecognised 5% of our population. These people are marred, scarred and abused by those who fail them and this includes the Department of Health and Social Care under the previous government, and the NHS NHS England themselves. Trans people exist, there are an estimated 400k in the UK and 400m in the world today. The current suicide rate of trans people across the world ranges from 32%-52%. That means 200m people globally are at risk of unnecessary harm which WILL be the largest active tragedy known to civilised humanity.”

Joint statement The yard coventry glamourous group and Unity in Cov Today, we are deeply troubled by the UK Health Secretary’s decision to indefinitely ban hormone blockers for trans youth. This decision disregards extensive evidence from global medical organizations that affirm the importance of gender-affirming care, including hormone blockers, in supporting the mental health and well-being of trans young people. Denying access to this vital care not only places trans youth at risk but sends a harmful message that their needs, experiences, and identities are not valid. We cannot stand by as young people are deprived of the resources that allow them to live authentically and safely. We want to reaffirm our unwavering solidarity with the trans and non-binary community, especially young people who may be feeling vulnerable and scared in the wake of this decision. We will continue to advocate for policies grounded in compassion, science, and human rights, and we call on the government to reconsider this harmful and regressive action. To trans youth: You are valid. You are loved. You deserve access to the care and support you need to thrive. We see you, we stand with you, and we will fight for you. 🚨🚨🚨 Australian clinicians, along with other international experts, have warned of the likely “serious human cost” to Australia pursuing a ‘rights-based’ rather than an ‘evidence-based’ approach to treating gender dysphoria in a newly published paper in the Sage Journal. It also noted with concern the impact ‘conversion practices ban’ laws have had in closing off access to exploratory treatments. 5/8 Australian states/territories have these laws in place. 🇦🇺 Australia’s response to the Cass Report and its dismissal of the explosive leaked WPATH files is out of step with the international medical community, which is now adopting a more holistic approach and limiting or banning harmful and irreversible medical treatments, including puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones. ⚠️ It's time for our leaders to put politics aside and prioritise the health and well-being of our children by holding a long-overdue inquiry. #auspol 📖 https://lnkd.in/gHEv8V8u 🔗 https://archive.md/Du0PK
