To further improve our carbon footprint, Alluminio di Qualità S.p.A. (“AQ”), the largest Italian based distributor of aluminium flat rolled products, and Niche Fusina Rolled Products Srl (“Fusina”), have agreed to close the scrap loop for marine material. This is a very important step for both AQ and Fusina. By closing the scrap loop, both companies will be able to create a sustainable and repeatable supply chain. Given the relative short distance between the two companies’ productions facilities, we will coordinate the logistics to reduce the delivery carbon impact (which generally represents one of the highest carbon impacts of our supply chain). #circulareconomy #aluminium CarbonChain Alluminio di Qualità S.p.A. Adaptiq LLC said last week that it had selected a site for its proposed aluminum billet facility in the US, with official details expected to be announced in the coming weeks. The company has previously said it is looking to locate the project in Ohio, and PerenniAL will serve as its exclusive sales and marketing partner. The proposed mill is said to be supported by increased demand for domestic and sustainable secondary aluminum billet over imported primary aluminum billet. US imports of primary billet in 2023 did fall to their lowest level since 2011, as seen below. You can read more here on this development and on other metal stories for S&P Global Commodity Insights: https://lnkd.in/edf6C2aZ #aluminum #aluminumbillet #sustainability #imports

Most people do not realize that the material left over after automobile shredding systems still contains a enough nonferrous metals, stainless steel and residual amounts of ferrous metals that it is worth exploring a system to process, liberate and recover these materials as a stand alone business. When you own and operate 6 automobile shredders, live on an island that has limited landfill space and is always looking for ways to generate energy in the most efficient way, and your tag line is “I ♥ RECYCLE”, the opportunity to process this material is too hard to pass over. Matec is an SSI customer located in Hokkaido, Japan who has recently installed a processing system to harvest marketable metals from auto shredder residue and produce engineered alternative fuel from the remaining fractions. It’s an incredible facility and an incredible group of people. If you are ever there, you can even stop in at their “Matec product store” and buy items made from recovered materials as a souvenir. Thank you to the entire Matec team for allowing SSI to share this part of your story. Here’s the video ▼
