The humble tonic water is under threat. And it’s a bit of a double whammy. Firstly, according to Claire Dodd’s feature piece in The Spirits Business, as we embrace a far more diverse range of spirits in the UK, the traditional G&T is taking a bit of a knock. Secondly, there’s a massive boom in the mixers market, with new players, flavour profiles and serves getting their rightful share of our attention, so tonic is needing to compete harder for a space in our kitchen cupboards and bars. Luckily, this most versatile of mixers has been finding natural pairings with a range of other popular spirits, so all is not lost. I was addicted to Cognac & tonic for a couple years after a brand trip to Martell Cognac! Might revisit it this weekend!
Tequila & Tonic? Yes please, Nick Gillett - with a dash of Cointreau, garnished with orange peel and himalayan rock salt around the rim...👌.
