Climate Neutrality: EMS Prioritises Sustainability and Reduction of CO2 Emissions At EMS, economic, social, and ecological sustainability are at the core of its industrial activities. By focusing on weight-saving system solutions, EMS contributes to a significant reduction in annual CO2 emissions, amounting to 35,000 tons per year for its customers. The company's commitment to environmentally friendly production practices is evident. At its largest production site in Domat/Ems, Switzerland, EMS reduced CO2 emissions by over 80% with the implementation of a biomass power station back in 2006. Moreover, since 2020, EMS has transitioned to using 100% CO2-neutral hydroelectricity at its production and sales locations in Switzerland and Germany. To further mitigate its environmental impact, EMS has adopted various measures to both avoid and offset CO2 emissions. Removing one ton of CO2 from the atmosphere can cost between US$230 and US$540 in 2050. 📌Yesterday, the European Roundtable on Climate Change and Sustainable Transition (ERCST) presented his new paper "Low-Carbon #Hydrogen: key elements for a common sense approach". 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗵𝗶𝗴𝗵𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀: ✅A solid business model is key for reaching decisions on #investments and long-term planning. The regulator plays a critical role in creating the conditions that make this possible, particularly through clear definitions, robust MRV, as well as by allowing and providing financial #incentives. An integrated approach that addresses both supply and demand is needed to create a business model that is profitable and sustainable in the long term.  ✅The Delegated Act #GHG emissions accounting methodology should be based on current, precise scientific data rather than relying on averages. If these data are not available, the default values must be in line with those used to establish the reference value of the #carbon intensity limit. ✅Low-carbon hydrogen should be viewed as more than a tool for #decarbonisation. In fact, it can also play a pivotal role in testing and advancing hydrogen technologies, accelerating their scalability, and fostering the #development of viable business models. Low-carbon hydrogen should be combined with a #European clean industry strategy, in order to be used as a tool in the competition to master the clean technologies of the future. "It is not about the definition of low-carbon hydrogen, but about “how to get the best bang for the buck” in the hydrogen life cycle. I wish that we could use something simpler -too much regulation, at a time when the EU is already falling behind in efficiency”, said Andrei Marcu, Executive Director of ERCST. There was an exchange of views with experts that presented their views and expanded on key issues related to the paper’s findings. Revealing insights from the #worldhydrogen2024 summit! It's encouraging to see energy majors like #Exxonmobil, #BP, and #Iberdrola highlighting their Hydrogen strategy. A common thread among them is the focus on Low Carbon Solutions (#bluehydrogen) before Going Green. These funds will serve as a bank till #greenhydrogen becomes mature. It's good to see most are Agnostic for any colour of the #Hydrogen Spectra and are willing to reach net-zero targets within a short time. I also had the pleasure of meeting innovative start-ups like #carbonrecycling international ♻️, which has patented technology to transform CO2 to produce #methanol that can be further used for other e-fuels like Sustainable Aviation Fuels #SAF. Financing was a pivotal point discussed by the Hydrogen Energy Council and the International Hydrogen Trade Forum. The big question remains: who foots the bill for the #Energy Transitions? Solutions need to be considered across industry and government organizations. Day 1 at #IGH Investing in Green Hydrogen and some fascinating commentary…. One of the most is how #green is green? What are the #embeddedemissions in the #windturbine in the #steel or the #shipping to deliver the hydrogen. To me the flip side of this question is how green is blue? We are now all the same page that we will need #bluehydrogen for a transition period. But we need to understand how green blue is. Not on a high level, which is certification dependent but from #wellhead to offtaker. If we are going to, and I would say we need to accurately account for #GHG we need to much better at tracing at a molecular level. Inputs, recycling and 2nd life. Not impossible.
