Where are you in your data leveraging journey? We all started out with a pen and paper, adding up sales… DESCRIPTIVE Then we got more clients, added their sales to an excel file so we could see what happened. DIAGNOSTIC We eventually started drilling down to understand why certain sales are or are not happening. And, looking back over our shoulder to the past as a guide, we began to make sales projections based on our historical success. This loses accuracy when historical customer behavior and market influences are changing so rapidly that they will no longer apply to the future we are trying to predict. PREDICTIVE We need more sophisticated data collection and analysis about both our customers and the market in order to predict outcomes using algorithms run on real-time data. PRESCRIPTIVE Ultimately, we want our data to tell us what we need to do to achieve the outcomes we prefer. If you are attempting to gain this type of insight to drive revenue and you have more than a handful of clients or more than a tiny market, you’re in over your head.
