Today is the 75th anniversary of the founding of the Chinese People's Navy, and to mark the occasion, the first "Hidden into the Deep Sea" film about their war submarines was launched Many scenes in the film have been made public for the first time, starting with the actual combat, of the formation of the #Shandong aircraft carrier, and the high-definition scene of the missile launch from the #Julang submarine. Julang-2 (JL-2) is #China's second-generation submarine-launched intercontinental ballistic missile designed as a three-stage solid-fuel rocket. The maximum range of the basic version is 7,400 kilometers, while the improved version can increase to 8,000-9,000 kilometers and can carry 1 to 3 #nuclear warheads. On December 22, 2013, the first underwater launch test of the strategic nuclear submarines "#Julang2" and 094 " was a complete success. This was also the first time #China's naval strategic #nuclearweapons equipped it with such combat capabilities. Although the protagonist of this short film is a strategic #nuclearsubmarine, the guest appearance of the aircraft carrier formation is equally impressive. In the short film, two aircraft carrier formations conduct a "red and blue confrontation" exercise led by the ship #Shandong. This is also the first time the carrier battle group Shandong is shown. The attack group of surface ships, submarines and aviation wings has been fully documented. Being a standard attack group of an aircraft carrier, it is very likely that there is a #type093 nuclear attack submarine hidden under the formation of of of the group of the six surface warships. Check out this article if you'd like a glimpse inside my old life, back aft running the nuclear reactor on a "boomer."
And as I looked at the hulking slash on the horizon, the words of one naval captain resonated with me: “When a single boomer goes out to sea, it does so as the sixth-largest nuclear nation on earth.” Vanity Fair's Adam Ciralsky and photographer Philip Montgomery went underway with one of our Submarines and documented their expereience aboard one of the most leathal warships in the fleet. The #Pakistan Navy's (PN) Hangor (II)-class submarine program is poised to support the country's nuclear second-strike capabilities. However, when it comes to building its sea-based strategic capabilities, it seems that Pakistan won't stop at the Hangor. The PN wants a *dedicated* strategic platform, and for the Hangor, the strategic role would be one role among many (alongside anti-ship and submarine warfare). Does this mean that a nuclear-powered submarine (SSN/SSBN) is on the horizon? Not necessarily. PN officials have coined the term, "hybrid solution" to refer to their ability to pair nuclear weapons to conventionally-powered boats. In the future, the PN may try building upon this "hybrid" idea by seeking a conventionally-powered submarine with dedicated systems designed for supporting a credible nuclear payload. The classic Cold War movie "The Hunt for Red October" was the inspiration for the latest propulsion system installed on a US Navy Virginia Class nuclear submarine. The magnetohydrodynamic drive, commonly referred to as a caterpillar drive, will enable US submarines to patrol the ocean depths in complete silence taking stealth to a new level. The caterpillar drive has no moving parts that can make noise underwater. It uses high-powered magnets to generate electricity used to propel the vessel through the water silently. With this new technology, the US will retain its military strategic advantage under the world's oceans for decades to come. https://ow.ly/4mCI50Rc8Qw

Rolls-Royce got selected to supply the technology for the replacement version of the USA's military aircraft “Doomsday plane” that has the ability to survive a nuclear blast. -Rolls-Royce will be the part of the group of aerospace companies working on the Survivable Airborne Operations Center (SAOC) project, which aims to develop a successor to the US Air Force’s aging E-4B planes, a militarised versions of the Boeing 747-200 jumbo jet that have been in service since the 1970s. -Last month, the Pentagon awarded a $13bn contract for developing the next generation of Doomsday planes to defence giant Sierra Nevada Corporation. -The replacements are scheduled for delivery in 2036. #aircraft #aviation #defense

🇫🇷⚓️👏 NAVAL GROUP and TechnicAtome have conducted the first live test of the boiler room for the French Navy’s third Barracuda-class attack submarine. Developed in Cherbourg, the capability passed a stage called “divergence,” which validated its ignition while connected to the vessel’s core nuclear reactor. “The first divergence of a reactor nuclear power is undoubtedly one of the most emotional times for our teams,” TechnicAtome CEO Loïc Rocard said. “I am also delighted at the excellent collaboration we have with our partner Naval Group to carry out our mission to serve from France.” #military #army #technology #militarytech #defensetech #defense #defence #defenseindustry #defenceindustry #navy #naval #submarine #submarines #france #propulsion #nuclear

US Submarine Force needs 66+ SSNs but has less than 50, & suffers maintenance & new-construction bottlenecks. BUT USA has usually been under-ready for big wars yet we do win them w. our allies. AUKUS is one key part of that! #submarines #nuclear #deterrence #aukus #coldwartwo #usindustrialbase
US Navy’s submarine fleet is too small. Here’s how selling some may help.

There are calls for the Royal Navy to acquire a class of submarine it’s never had before – a nuclear powered guided missile sub (SSGN). This is a large nuclear powered submarine, not unlike a nuclear deterrent boat but with a large number of vertically-launched cruise missiles rather than a smaller number of nuclear-tipped intercontinental ballistics. It’s a very good, but very expensive, idea. Many conventional and nuclear-powered attack submarines – SSs and SSNs, respectively – carry some cruise missiles, including the Royal Navy’s current Trafalgar- and Astute-class SSNs. But they carry only a few cruise missiles, and fire them horizontally from their torpedo tubes, limiting the pace and volume of the shooting. The idea behind an SSGN is to optimize the boat’s strike potential, by arming with a lot of cruise missiles – and firing them from vertical launch tubes that can salvo scores of missiles in a span of minutes. An SSGN is bigger than an SSN, the same size as a ballistic missile deterrent sub (an SSBN), and it can fit several vertical tubes for cruise weapons into the same space as a single intercontinental nuclear missile. This means a lot of cruise missiles. https://lnkd.in/gGu78Pkh
Should the Royal Navy join the US in a very exclusive club? Good idea, but expensive

The U.S. Navy Quit #Building a 'Bomber' #AircraftCarrier After 5 Days The USS United States (CVA-58) was planned as a revolutionary supercarrier following World War II, designed to launch heavy bombers armed with nuclear weapons. It featured a 65,000-ton flush deck without an island to accommodate larger aircraft. What You Need to Know: The USS United States (CVA-58) was planned as a revolutionary supercarrier following World War II, designed to launch heavy bombers armed with nuclear weapons. It featured a 65,000-ton flush deck without an island to accommodate larger aircraft. -However, the ambitious design presented numerous logistical issues, including radar placement and the management of smoke from the ship’s boilers. Ultimately, the program was canceled just five days after its keel was laid in 1949, largely due to opposition from the U.S. Air Force and budget concerns. -The cancellation led to the later development of more practical supercarriers like the Forrestal-class.
