Did you know that your sleep position can impact your cognitive health? 💤 🧠 🤔 Recent studies suggest that sleeping on your back (supine position) could potentially contribute to neurodegenerative disorders like Alzheimer's and Parkinson's. Here's why: Your brain has a detox system called the glymphatic system, which flushes out neurotoxins while you sleep. However, when you're a back sleeper, the process is less efficient, which may lead to cognitive decline over time. 🔍 How can you improve brain detoxification during sleep? - Sleep on your side for better neurotoxin clearance - Exercise regularly - Stick to a consistent sleep schedule - Avoid blue light before bed ✨ Want to support your glymphatic system and enjoy quality sleep? Consider incorporating herbal solutions like Valerian Root, Chamomile, and Passionflower. My Sleep Blend Tincture is designed to promote deep, restful sleep and support brain health. Understanding the mystery behind muscle twitches during sleep💤 🤔Have you ever felt an involuntary muscle twitch in your lower limbs while sleeping? Or perhaps you've been suddenly awoken by a quick jerk or twitch in your body? You might have even observed this in someone else. These episodes are commonly referred to as muscle spasms, but did you know there’s a medical term for this phenomenon? It’s called sleep myoclonus. 📍Sleep myoclonus is characterized by involuntary, non-rhythmic muscle twitching that occurs as a person falls asleep or during sleep. These movements include jerks, shakes, and spasms. There are two types of myoclonus: - Positive Myoclonus: Caused by sudden muscle contraction. - Negative Myoclonus:Resulting from a brief loss of muscular tone. 🔎While the exact cause of sleep myoclonus is still unknown, research indicates several factors that can increase twitching, including: - Anxiety and Stress - Caffeine Intake - Sleep Disorders such as Parkinson’s disease and epilepsy. 💡If you frequently experience these twitches, here are some tips to help reduce their occurrence: - Reduce Caffeine Intake - Exercise Early in the Day - Practice Relaxation Techniques such as meditation. - Maintain a Consistent Sleep Schedule It's important to note that sleep myoclonus is not typically a disorder in healthy individuals. However, when it occurs too frequently, it might be a sign of a nervous system disorder. I hope you found this information enlightening. Let me know in the comments what stood out to you the most. Remember, a good night's sleep is crucial for overall health and well-being! PS: A friend of mine also spoke about other benefits of sleep. First Natural Remedy for Better Sleep in 2024: Melatonin Melatonin is a hormone your body produces naturally that signals to your brain that it’s time to sleep. Time of day influences this hormone’s cycle of production and release — melatonin levels naturally rise in the evening and fall in the morning. For this reason, melatonin supplements have become a popular sleep aid, particularly in instances where the melatonin cycle is disrupted, such as jet lag. Several studies report that melatonin improves daytime sleep quality and duration. This is particularly beneficial for individuals whose schedules require them to sleep during the daytime, such as shift workers. Melatonin may improve overall sleep quality in individuals with sleep disorders. Specifically, melatonin appears to reduce the time people need to fall asleep (known as sleep latency) and increase the total amount of sleep time. Find out more about this sleep aid with us.
