What Does It Take to Join FAANG/MAANG as a Financial Analyst? Is It Worth It? Hello, to my connections 🌟 I've been reflecting on my career path and wondering about the requirements and benefits of joining leading tech giants like FAANG (Facebook, Apple, Amazon, Google) or MAANG (Microsoft, Apple, Amazon, Google) as a Financial Analyst. Questions on My Mind: 1. What educational background and skills are essential to land a Financial Analyst role in these companies? 2. What kind of work experience and expertise do they typically look for? Is it worth joining these companies in terms of career growth and stability? 3. Faang/Maang is better or Startups ? I’d love to hear your thoughts and experiences! Looking forward to your comments! 😊 #CareerQuestions #FinancialAnalyst #TechCareers #FAANG #MAANG #Startups #facebook #meta #apple #amazon #netflix #microsoft

I've heard an interesting opinion about ex-FAANG engineers. Managers often prefer them to impress investors or attract new developers eager to work alongside an ex-Google engineer, even at lower pay. But as an engineer, I value the ability to innovate and make an impact quickly, which big tech's slow processes hinder. I declined Google's offer because their delivery process is too slow, taking up to 18 months to see changes in production. I thrive on challenging projects and need a fast-paced environment, which is almost impossible to find in big tech companies. So, the question is: should I add 'non-FAANG engineer' to my LinkedIn title? 😎 #TechLife #Engineering #Innovation #CareerChoices #FAANG #StartupLife #FastPaced #ChallengingProjects #LinkedInTitle

Question - Do you FEAR getting into FAANG? FAANG employees are often referred to as "purple squirrels" due to their rare and unique skill sets. These individuals possess exceptional qualities that make them highly sought after in the job market. What sets them apart? First and foremost, FAANG employees are highly skilled in technical roles such as Machine Learning Engineer and Data Scientist. They work on complex algorithms, contributing to groundbreaking products like Apple's hardware and Google's search algorithms. But it's not just their skills that make them special. The hiring process for FAANG companies is incredibly tough, with Google only hiring 0.2% of 3 million applicants annually. This rigorous selection process ensures that only the best of the best are hired. FAANG employees also have top-tier experience working on cutting-edge projects. For example, they optimize Amazon's logistics network and improve Netflix's streaming algorithms. Known for their dedication and high-quality results, they handle millions of users' streaming needs. Innovation is also a key characteristic of FAANG employees, with the companies spending over $100 billion on R&D in 2023. And to keep up with the latest advancements, these companies offer extensive training programs like Facebook University. Overall, FAANG employees bring exceptional value to their companies and the job market as a whole. If you're interested in working for one of these companies, reach out to Mahesh M. Which candidate should you choose: FAANG experience or startup? Answers: https://lnkd.in/g2P-iy5R #HiringDecisions #JobMarket #CareerPath #Recruitment Hey everyone! 🌟 I have a scenario that I’d love to get your thoughts on. Imagine you're a hiring manager faced with two candidates for a tech position: Candidate A: 3 years of experience at a non-FAANG company, currently working at a large startup that was recently acquired by a bigger company. Candidate B: 4 years of experience at FAANG but has been unemployed for the past 1.5 years. 🤔 Which candidate would you choose to bring on board? Here are a few pain points to consider: Experience in Startups vs. Big Tech: Candidate A brings experience from a growing startup that’s transitioned through an acquisition. This means they could be adaptable and familiar with a dynamic work environment. Candidate B has the prestige of FAANG on their resume but has been out of the game for a while, which raises questions about their current skills and adaptability. Employment Gaps: Candidate B's 1.5 years of unemployment might make hiring managers wary. It’s essential to understand their situation – perhaps they...

Role and responsibility of a software engineer is not "plug-and-play" across companies. I see a lot of companies following certain levelling conventions copied from Big Tech. Even many influencers from certain Big Techs are not aware of what a day to day life of a "Staff Engineer" looks like or should look like in non-Big-tech. If you are working a small startup or a smaller team in a Big Tech, then the role of a Staff or a Principal engineer may not be the same as in a bigger team in FAANG. Its not about how the level maps across companies but how the responsibilities maps across the same level. A Staff or a Principal engineer in a small team/startup still has to write code 90% of their time (until they get big) as compared to probably 50-60% in say FAANG. Sadly many managers and CTOs dont assume that this is the case and their "copy-cat" idea of a Staff or a Principal engineer borrowed from FAANG stays with them and as a result such teams do not usually succeed long term. #staffengineer #faang #principalengineer

Working at big tech is a trap designed to stop entrepreneurship. I think it was best described here: https://lnkd.in/g_5tjNxS . After my last viral post, https://lnkd.in/ggNRnphm, a large number of big tech employees asked me how they could possibly quit their jobs and do a startup like myself. I have created 3 products, so I have done this, and I'm preaching that you should do this because the best way to learn more in a short period of time than anything else. My advice (for a current software engineer): - Save up some money (enough to last you 1 year of living expenses). - Quit your job - Launch a product as quickly as possible (think weeks) and get customers (1st is the hardest) Even upon failure, if you make good progress, it will be seen as a badge on your resume that you can do it all yourself. My engineering job was being a infrared imaging engineer. After creating a vector database product in 2020, I was able to transition my career into being a machine learning software engineer doing language processing / LLMs at Google in just 4 months, which I had no prior experience. #ai #startup #faang

You won't learn everything at MAANG companies or digital-first startups. Sometimes "stodgy, antiquated corporations" are the best places to build the foundations of a great career. Whether it’s product management, finance, marketing or beyond. Working in these “old school" corporate environments in a digital era offers unique advantages: You learn how to: - Navigate corporate politics - Tailor your message for different audiences - Create innovative solutions to longstanding problems - Blend old and new technologies - Collaborate with colleagues across generations - Grasp the complexities of dependencies, risks, and impacts across numerous partners and teams - Appreciate the contrast between traditional methods and potential innovations - Effectively challenge the "we've always done it this way" mindset - Explore a diverse ecosystem of products, services, and backend systems—from decades-old to brand new—and understand their interactions - Adopt comprehensive approaches to problem-solving, recognizing that solutions often require cross-team collaboration These experiences provide a well-rounded skill set that's valuable across industries. After all, you’re learning from the giants - they had to do something right to get to where they are. So, don’t underestimate working at older, more established companies. By working in traditional corporate environments, you gain a unique perspective on business operations and develop adaptability across the old and new - a crucial trait in today's rapidly evolving job market. This blend gives you with the versatility to thrive in any professional setting - start-up, MAANG, legacy or anywhere in between. That’s not something you want to discount. Agree? Disagree? What’s your experience with working in older companies? #productmanagement #productmanager #digitaltransformation #careergrowth #legacy #learninganddevelopment
