I spent Friday afternoon talking to students from the MBD, Master of Business Development, CBS about the organization of a comms department, the blend of external and internal communications, the leader’s communications role and some learnings from my time as communications lead as Handelsbanken Denmark was put up for sale in 2021 (and subsequently acquired by Jyske Bank). The students came mostly from large international companies and represented 19 different nationalities! I enjoyed hearing about their experiences and thoughts about communications. When I asked when they had last been in contact with their comms department, answers were quite diverse: - One needed help with a presentation - One helped the marcom department analyzing customer data - One needed a communications plan and strategy for a business unit - One had a comms colleague on board in her change project I wrapped up my presentation with these points: - Communication can be planned but not controlled. Internal and external channels will always overlap, and messages should be aligned. Think of the whole communication landscape from the viewpoint of your stakeholder. - When planning communication, analyze your stakeholder groups, develop and stick to your key messages and core story, follow your plan, listen to reactions – and change it when needed. - As a leader, you are your employees’ most important communications channel. Remember to always put yourself in their shoes. You are yourself both a sender and a receiver of communication – that should help you. Thanks for inviting me, Simon Krogh and Anne Vestergaard.
MBD, Master of Business Development, CBS, had the pleasure of welcoming Me Sophie Christensen as guest speaker in connection with the course in 'Strategic Communication' this Friday afternoon. As a highly experienced communication professional Me offered the 30 international master students unique insights into the reality of leading internal and external communication efforts and she presented a case focused on the communication and leadership challenges associated with a major organizational transition. Thank you to Me for sharing your knowledge and to make it another inspiring afternoon at Copenhagen Business School.

If your communications fail to influence, they are just meaningless noise. Today I had the privilege of attending a seminar led by a senior colleague I greatly admire who spoke to ‘influence’ as the heart of leadership. People in positions of power can wield influence by demanding compliance. But true leaders build influence through: ✅ Trust ✅ Honesty ✅ Respect ✅ Consistency ✅ Genuine kindness and ✅ Offering help more than asking for it The same holds true for successful communications: when you engage transparently and respectfully, you can gradually build influence and lead your audience to action.
