Nostalgic trends aren’t reserved for fashion and interiors, this also happens with food as the restaurant industry is cyclical. There’s been a revived interest in hearty, traditional comfort dishes for diners after the hype of molecular gastronomy cools and people are seeking familiarity in a world that is seemingly becoming more unfamiliar. Restaurants are reaching into the archives and dusting off old recipes to add a touch of comfort to their menus again. Nostalgic additions we’ve seen are pea and ham soup from the Devonshire Soho, Maitake Cornish pasty from Roe Restaurant, and daily pies from Quo Vadis Soho. Dovetale London added a Knickerbocker Glory station to their repertoire (which cost a whopping £50k), and you can get ice cream sandwiches from Manteca.
