This holiday season I looked for inspiration on building a highly impactful and extraordinarily successful company and my own growth from founders and CEOs I hold in high regard. I've read and listened to interviews with founders and CEOs of Polaroid, Apple, Nvidia, Dropbox, Airbnb, Databricks and Sourcegraph. A common observation I made is that they are often asked to talk about mistakes they made, what they would have done differently. In some cases that led to discussions on taking different paths, like cloud only vs. on-prem first, product led vs. sales led growth, engineering vs. product vs. design led development, to name a few. Many of these examples resonated with me, and I have personally seen the need to take a step and then change course, while that initial step was actually quite essential to enabling taking that next step. My conclusion is that every founder, every company, through trial and error, is ultimately finding a path to its own success, and had they taken different steps, or made different mistakes, they may have been on a different path altogether! So as we've stepped into 2025, as my holiday cheers: here's to owning and embracing your mistakes, turning them into building blocks that help you shape your and your company's values and character, and ultimately finding your unique path to extraordinary success! Cheers!
EngFlow is ready for 2025 with our 2024 wrap up. We continued our multi-year track record of exponential growth. This year we onboarded some of the most complex and advanced engineering organizations across autonomous driving, e-commerce, SaaS, finance, and chip manufacturing. It’s been a fulfilling year for EngFlow. Behind every accomplishment there are months or years of hard work and grit, behind wins there are losses and learnings. We have grown together and individually, personally and professionally, and are so grateful for our team and our customers who choose to work with EngFlow every day! Cheers to a successful 2025 for all! https://lnkd.in/eR-EJB6v

Leaving Confluent: A Bittersweet Transition Reflecting on my time at Confluent, the decision to move on marks a pivotal moment in my career—a blend of emotions, both bitter and sweet. Joining Confluent, I never foresaw the profound impact this journey would have. Witnessing an 80% company growth, team expansions, and diverse role transitions has been truly gratifying. Yet, beyond the achievements lie the relationships forged—the camaraderie with friends, peers, and mentors that have made this experience truly unforgettable. I extend my deepest appreciation to the guiding lights at Confluent: Anirudhya (Arnie) Dasgupta, Nick Dearden, Steve Zorn and Hans Jespersen. Your mentorship has been priceless, and I am grateful for the wisdom imparted. To my colleagues across various teams—CSG, Sales, Product, Engineering, Marketing, and Training—thank you for the collaboration, support, and camaraderie that have defined this journey. As I embark on a new chapter, after a remarkable decade, I am returning to India to support my family—a decision intertwined with both professional and personal significance. The years spent in the USA, nurturing friendships and calling it home, have shaped me profoundly. To all who have walked alongside me, offering encouragement and guidance, your impact on my journey is immeasurable. While bidding farewell is challenging, I eagerly anticipate embracing this new phase and reuniting with my family. Though the goodbye is bittersweet, I'll be cheering on Confluent and each of you from a distance! 🚀 TILL WE MEET AGAIN !!

As my two-year anniversary at Aviatrix approaches; I thought I'd take a moment to share some reflections: While I was prepared to deal with the many of the growing pains at Aviatrix, Google had spoiled me with infrastructure that I took for granted. GitHub is a poor substitute for a well integrated CI/CD system I was used to. We have investigated significantly in this area, and while there’s still much to do, it’s amazing how far we have come. For example, we used to fret about releasing CSP images because of the manual toil involved in releasing for the 10+ cloud environments we support, such that we often jump through hoops (aka hacks) to avoid doing so. Today it’s all automated, so developers can focus on solving problems the right way. Another thing I missed was the set of common development practices and libraries – Googlers often joke about spending their whole career transforming one protobuf to another, but having such a common abstraction is extremely powerful. We are starting to do more in this area, which will pay dividends in improving productivity and quality of our software. I joined Aviatrix to build out our edge product. We have had several successes with our Aviatrix Secure Edge solution (https://lnkd.in/gnYAPGDn) as well as our growing partnership with Equinix and Megaport. But as the business evolved, I took on a broader set of responsibilities over our product. There have also been several big leadership changes at the company. As the team navigated these changes, I am reminded about the importance of communication and transparency. I am impressed with Doug M.'s early emphasis on building trust with the leadership team, and have strived to drive this through the engineering organization. There is still much to do, and I appreciate the team’s understanding and support. This brings me to the people – I am humbled by many former colleagues who have joined me here at Aviatrix – thank you for your continued trust and friendship. Being a distributed company also gave me an opportunity to recruit talented engineers from across the world. I’ve written previously about the challenges and opportunities (https://lnkd.in/g_fMq4Ap) . I think a lot about how to build effective/scalable teams, and am a big advocate for "giving away your legos" (https://lnkd.in/gKVt7VaK) and having leaders own and drive their product areas. We will continue to invest in engineering leadership development and driving our CEO’s vision of creating an unparalleled employee experience anchored on empowerment and accountability. #TeamAviatrix has grand plans for growth – we have many exciting launches planned over the next several quarters, with an emphasis on solving the security, connectivity and network simplicity challenges that our customers face. I’m excited to be part of this journey!

#KubeCon is wrapped for me! It was a great conference and the highlights were bright: 1. #OpenTofuDay was awesome -- It was exciting to see so many great, passionate folks on stage and on panels talking about cool things they're doing with the project. I love the trajectory of the project and as an implementor I'm looking forward to some of the new stuff coming in 1.9+! 2. My lightning talk on migrating one of our client's to #OpenTofu for speed + cost went better than I anticipated! Had some great questions + conversations with folks following the discussion and I'm happy to add another great migration story to the pile because that is what we need to cull the FUD at the moment. 3. Meeting up with colleagues was a blast. I said it yesterday in another post, but this is what is great about conferences: Getting the chance to meet the great folks in the community. Appreciate all of you that I got to chat and shake hands with! 4. Skipping out early yesterday to climb awesome granite (pictured below) with a friend in Little Cottonwood Canyon was a blast! Nothing like a florescent conference hall for a couple days to make good sunshine and weather all the more enjoyable. Now back to work... which may be putting together a panel discussion for the KubeCon Europe CFP 😎 #platform #platformengineering #platforms #cloud #devops
