🤔 Thing is to consider when looking for a job in Japan? 🤔
Some candidates have been reaching out to me about the same things a lot when looking for a job in Japan. So these are so things to know and consider/know that is important when looking for a job in Japan from my perspective:
⭕ Check if the role is a permanent or contract position! - The interview process is completely different and also the risk/benefits is different too. I have seen so many people take contract roles in Japan without understanding the risk that comes with it
⭕ Japan rarely hires overseas junior candidates that don't speak business Japanese - It is unfortunate, but unless you have a certain level of Japanese, most companies in Japan do not hire interns or junior candidates located overseas due to high costs. Those roles usually you need to contact direct TA or attend job fairs to find
⭕ There are very limited English only management level roles - I have met and spoken with many talented EM and PM but in Japan there are still very limited English only management roles, as it involves speaking to stakeholders who are usually Japanese people. Lets say you do find that role, it will be hard for you to change job unless another english role opens, so is it really worth coming ?
⭕ Money should not be the reason you come to #Japan - If money is your main reason to come to Japan, then this country is not a good fit. Of course money is important, however most of the people that stay in this country is due to other factors like: culture, relationships they built, food, safety, family and etc. Japan does not pay bad, but of course it needs lots of improvement but this should not be a reason to move here
⭕ There is still some Bias in #Japan unfortunately - Bias to: Ageism, Job hoppers, freelancers, contract workers, Educational background still does exist and usually these people struggle the most in getting jobs in Japan overseas or not
🙇♂️ These are some things I want people to really consider before looking for jobs in Japan. 🙇♂️
Japan is a wonderful country still and I love it and would continue working here rather than in the US any day. However please also note to work in Japan you need to have strong commitment, attachment and mentality to work in this country as well. If you travelled here and enjoyed it that is great. But working in Japan and travelling in Japan is completely different!
Hope this gives a little more insight.
