T levels do indeed open doors to a new experience of learning beyond the academic, traditional methods where regurgitation of information to pass exams is the norm. Allows to a great extent for the student to take control of their learning where skills and behaviours are paramount. Do get me wrong, I agree like many of you, it is a qualification that's resource heavy and requires meticulous planning across provider departments, but it can be done, with a few stumbles along the way, nothing that one can't recover from. T levels inspires committed learners to engage in conversations with their teachers that transforms their mindsets to the ' I can do this...' through critical and lateral thinking processes. Embracing T levels within the FE sector by providers demystifies the perception that FE Voc routes are for those who have 'failed' the traditional A level route. Having been part of the team that has seen learners develop their resilience, and continue their T level journey amidst a T level teaching and assessment landscape that was/is enduring lots of negative publicity, there's definitely a future for this qualification framework. All that is needed is empowerment of the delivery teams by the SLTs through focused investment. Hence my excitement about this new concept of T level ambassadors. Looking forward to joining the ambassadors and the other emerging T level networks to drive the key messages and mitigate provider concern and further develop this education option.

The next national competition cycle usually starts in January and it leads to a final in the same year (2025). international competitions have a rule - you cannot be older than 21 in the year of the international final. The next international final is in Shanghai china 2026. Are your apprentices ready to enter ?

Achieving outstanding performance at WorldSkills Competition requires hard work of the competitors. At the same time, comprehensive support from their #Experts behind the scenes also contribute significantly to their success. Experts provide comprehensive skills training for the competitors to participate in regional and international training and competitions overseas and in Mainland China, building up their experience before WorldSkills Lyon 2024. Beyond training, the experts also act as mentors, offering mental well-being support. Some experts are former competitors themselves. Their experience sharing can boost confidence and motivation. Our experts also actively contribute to promoting skills, encouraging students to explore various skills. And of course, at the international level, they also contribute as part of the WorldSkills expert team of respective skills trades. At WorldSkills Lyon 2024, they will also share important tasks such as competition assessment. It may be a delayed post, but I wanted to share my thoughts and experiences from the 47th WorldSkills Competition in Lyon, France. This event was an eye-opening experience that showcased the immense talent and skills of the younger generation from around the world. The WorldSkills Competition is an incredible platform for young professionals to demonstrate their expertise in various fields, from hospitality, IT, beauty, construction, vehicle maintenance, to creative arts. The sheer scale and diversity of the competition were truly impressive. I am proud to say that the youth of Macau and our experts did not disappoint. Despite our small population, we managed to capture several excellence awards. Asian countries, in particular, performed exceptionally well, with China securing the top position, closely followed by Korea. There has been much debate on the Internet regarding such competitions and the judging criteria. Some argue that the more prepared and precise should come out on top, while others believe that Asian countries simply follow standards and are robotic in the process, excelling because that's what is being evaluated. Personally, I find both perspectives to be accurate. However, I'd like to offer another perspective. In the past, Asian countries have invested heavily in learning from experts across the globe. Even today, there is a significant demand for skilled and experienced consultants, especially those from the West. Here's a more provocative take: China and Korea emerged as the biggest winners across the board, nearly tripling and doubling the overall scores of other nations. Now, how many of those other countries do you think will seek the services or pay for advice from a Chinese or Korean expert? This is not a post about race or superiority; I'm a learning enthusiast, and all I see is a lesson in learning. You should always find the humility and sometimes even courage to look at those who did better and ask them how they did it. If all you think about is an excuse as to why someone else did better, you'll only stay exactly where you are. The WorldSkills Competition has shown us that there is much to be gained from embracing diverse perspectives and skills from around the world. It's time we recognize and learn from excellence, regardless of its origin. #WorldSkillsCompetition #GlobalTalent #LearningFromTheBest
