The tubes are supplied in both capped and uncapped form, and descramblers present the tube or cap to a position where a Universal Robots UR3 picks it up. The UR3 places the tube under a filling head where another UR3 robot takes hold of the tube while the first UR3 gets another tube. Once the tube is filled, the cap is screwed back on and the finished tube is placed in an outfeed conveyor. This is a great example of robot collaboration! Sure, cobots can do easy jobs - but they do equally as well with complex, higher speed jobs. ✔ Take this example from Andrew Donald Design Engineering showing two Universal Robots cobots in a pharmaceutical liquid filling cell. Between the two arms, they unscrew the cap off the incoming tube, hold the tube under a filler nozzle, and screw a cap back on. The real-time hand-off between the two arms is especially cool! Possibly the most impressive aspect of this application is that it was done over 7 years ago at a time when collaborative robots were barely known.
