From Assembly State and Local Government Chair, Assemblyman Robert J. Karabinchak: On Thursday, during the Assembly State and Local Government meeting, we took a monumental step toward ensuring fairness and equity for all veterans. The passage of A3161 expands eligibility for veterans’ benefits by removing outdated requirements tied to specific service dates or locations. This landmark legislation affirms that all service matters and no sacrifice should go unrecognized. What This Means for Veterans: Expanded Benefits: More veterans will qualify for civil service preference, enhanced retirement benefits, and the ability to purchase additional military service credits. Fair Treatment for All: Whether in combat zones, on classified missions, or in critical support roles, all #veterans will now be treated equally under the law. Recognizing Modern Service: Today’s military has evolved. Every role is vital to defending our nation, and every contribution deserves equal recognition. A vet is a vet. Veterans have sacrificed for us—now it’s our turn to stand up for them. Let’s keep breaking down barriers and reaffirming our unwavering commitment to those who’ve served.

Today, we honor and celebrate the service and sacrifice of veterans. Our country is grateful for the bravery and sacrifice of our military. However, many veterans face ongoing challenges long after their service, particularly when it comes to their health. It should be no surprise that meant of the clients I represent are veterans. For decades, asbestos was widely used in military equipment, ships, and buildings. The veterans I represent put their bodies on the line in more ways than one, and countless service members are at risk for life-threatening conditions such as mesothelioma, lung cancer, and asbestosis. It’s crucial that we raise awareness about the long-term effects of asbestos exposure and ensure that veterans have access to the healthcare and resources they need. If you are a veteran or know one who has been affected, it’s important to connect with healthcare providers who understand these risks and can offer proper support. To all the veterans—thank you for your service and sacrifice. Let’s continue to fight to protect and care for those who have given so much for us. #Veterans #ThankYouForYourService #AsbestosAwareness #HealthAndSafety

A transitioning veteran asked me the commonality of veterans in corporate America that strayed from the principles expected of military personnel. Without exception, money was the driving force. The Benjamins! The ones I worked with/for/and over, that were a POS left the military in a poor financial situation, purchased too much house, too much car(s) and were willing to do everything within their power to get promoted, or remain employed, in order to meet their financial obligations. The exception was those that were perhaps in a solid financial situation, but accumulating more money was a life goal. Maybe the real answer is they were all POS's while in the military. Transitioning veterans, get your financial house in order before you leave the military. No more housing allowance, tax free combat zone pay, jump pay, etc. Are you sure you need a newer vehicle, a big house, a boat? Why put that added financial burden/pressure on yourself and your family? #veterans #vetarnshelpingveterans #marines

Transitioning to civilian life is rarely easy for Veterans. One of the biggest hurdles is finding post-service employment that is fulfilling and capitalizes on the skills gained in the military. Our latest blog takes a look at some of the resources available to overcome this challenge and how the team at REE Medical is supporting Vets through the process: https://bit.ly/3A3ocwl. #VeteranSupport #CivilianLife #VeteranTransition #Blog #REEMedical

Today, on Veterans Day, we honor the courage, commitment and sacrifice of our members of service. Did you know that of the more than 1 million Americans living with Parkinson's disease, 110,000 are military veterans? A combination of factors play a role in the development of Parkinson’s disease. This can include stressors associated with military service like traumatic brain injury (TBI) and exposure to burn pits and toxic chemicals like trichlorethylene (TCE), which can increase risk. Honor our members of service by urging Congress to invest in veterans PD care and research. Read our latest blog to learn more. https://bit.ly/3O1giqT

The military spends millions of dollars and years turning us into weapons of war—teaching us to switch into combat mode in an instant. But when it comes to turning that off? Relatively very little time, money, or thought is given to that transition. And that’s where many veterans run into trouble. We’re trained to be aggressive, to act decisively, and to face threats head-on. We are ready for war but struggle with peace! And once we leave the service, society expects us to shut that mindset off as if it’s as easy as flipping a switch. The reality is, without the proper support, it’s not. This gap often leads to trouble—personal, professional, or even legal—for those of us who struggle with the transition. We need to invest in helping veterans turn off the fight, just as much as we invest in training them to turn it on. The cost of ignoring this is too high. #Leadership #Veterans

Returning to civilian life after serving in the Armed Forces, for some, can be difficult and daunting. One way Summit Pointe can help is through the Supported Employment program – helping veterans and others find purpose through employment. Our team member Stephen oversees the VA Laundry facility and joins us in this episode to talk about helping veterans find new purpose through the VA Laundry facility – which has implications well beyond employment. https://lnkd.in/g9nrg9Ym #SummitPointe #VeteranSupport #Veterans #VeteransDay #SupportiveEmployment #SupportOurTroops
