In a striking shift, North Korea openly acknowledged imprisoning citizens for political crimes and carrying out public executions during a fierce UN human rights review session. The rare admissions, which aimed to frame the abuses as non-arbitrary, included: • Justifying harsh penalties for unapproved media as necessary to protect "national sovereignty" • Confirming imprisonment for "anti-state offenses" despite denying political prison camps • Admitting to public executions for "extremely serious crimes" based on certain criteria The DPRK's attempts to address its international image by referencing UN standards and outlining new detainee rights laws offer a glimpse into the regime's concern for global perception, even as the UPR process lacks enforcement mechanisms. For an in-depth look at North Korea's acknowledgment of human rights abuses and the implications for engagement with the regime, read our full analysis: https://lnkd.in/gdzChrHn

Cities for CEDAW applauds the political courage of these countries in pursuing claims under #CEDAW based on the Taliban's #genderapartheid in Afghanistan. Pursuant to CEDAW Article 29, such claims could lead to proceedings before the International Court of Justice (notably, on which renowned feminist international law scholar Hilary Charlesworth now sits). For more information on this strategy, please refer to the Open Society Justice Initiative's foundational research here: https://lnkd.in/e9RcWaBV. Question to consider: How might this inaugural use of CEDAW's interstate complaint procedure impact the U.S.'s calculus in deciding whether to finally ratify the treaty?
I welcome Germany, Australia, Canada, and the Netherlands intention to hold the Taliban accountable for violating the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) which eventually mean proceedings at the International Court of Justice ICJ, in the Hague. CEDAW is not the only convention violated by Taliban. We must end culture pf impunity of so that voiceless people start believing in the international legal system. Long way to go. @ABaerbock @melaniejoly @SenatorWong @ministerBZ @hrw @heatherbarr1 🙏

South Korea's Democracy Stands Strong 🇰🇷 In a remarkable display of democratic resilience, South Korea just showed the world how institutional checks and balances truly work. President Yoon Suk Yeol attempted to impose martial law, but the National Assembly swiftly and unanimously blocked this move. Within hours, the President not only withdrew the martial law but publicly committed to respecting the legislative body's decision. This moment is a powerful reminder that democratic institutions matter. When lawmakers unite with a clear, principled stance, they can prevent potential authoritarian overreach. Have you ever witnessed a moment where democratic principles triumphed over potential power consolidation? 🤔 Key questions to ponder: - What makes democratic systems resilient? - How do checks and balances protect citizens' rights? - Why is legislative unity crucial in protecting democracy? These are the moments that restore faith in democratic processes and show that collective action can protect fundamental freedoms. #Democracy #SouthKorea #PoliticalResilience #GlobalPolitics #LegislativeAction #CivicEngagement #GlobalNews

Asking for Indigenous Attorney I think if I ask you about the Vietnam war that looks like the water off a duck’s back which is why the United States has violated criminal to Article Third of the United States Constitution to let the United States has been building up the invasion and subversion wars in the world like Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, and so on. So, no American Foreign Service Association and jurisprudences struggled for justice in the United States when the United States and Congress abused the mighty to rob a few foreign nations. However, they use their Constitution to fight against the American political opposites to look like Ex-president Trump. Therefore, if you are the best attorney, you should review the Vietnam War which is why the United States and Congress have been distorted their Constitution to let them deprive the right to life of foreign people when they have never terrorized to the United States which is why the United States has been terrorizing for innocent people of the world.
