European Mobility Week 2024 is underway! 16-22 September is dedicated to promoting sustainable mobility in our cities. It is a great opportunity to reflect on how we can improve urban mobility, not only in large cities but also in smaller and intermediate-sized cities. This is also a focus of the Nordic Road Association's (NVF) Urban Transport and Transport Planning working group, which aims to share experiences and best practices for developing sustainable mobility strategies in urban areas. The group works to develop tools and methods that can be utilized to create strategic and sustainable mobility solutions for cities. For the period 2024–2028, NVF’s activities are framed under the overarching theme of “Climate & Environment.” All working groups are aligned with this key theme, and collaboration between groups strengthens the overall development of sustainable mobility. Three days ago, I had the privilege of speaking at Brisbane City Hall, one of the city's most iconic heritage and cultural landmarks, which opened in 1930. We had a wonderful evening at Yutong Brand Night, celebrating the launch of Yutong Bus & Coach’s new technology, YUTONG Electric Architecture and other new products. Yutong has been a valued UITP member since 2009. In the past 15 years, we have witnessed Yutong’s remarkable development, leading the new energy revolution in the Asia-Pacific market through advanced technologies, innovative service models, and flexible localization strategies. During my speech, I covered the following key topics: 🚌 The adoption of zero-emission buses (ZEBs) in public transport networks to help meet transport emission reduction targets. 🚌The implementation of ZEBs policies and commitments across Australian states. 🚌The significant support our state governments have provided in ensuring that the transition to ZEBs maximizes local benefits. I also emphasized that: 🚌The transition to ZEBs in Australia not only helps reduce our environmental footprint but also brings significant economic, social, and operational benefits. 🚌The current and projected demand for locally built ZEBs far exceeds our current supply capacity. 🚌The shift to ZEBs involves more than just vehicle manufacturing—it requires the development of supporting infrastructure, integration with the energy sector, adjustments in network design and route planning, and the adoption of innovative technologies to support these buses. Therefore, As the domestic industry is facing challenges in meeting the growing demand and navigate the complexities of the large-scale transformation, it is crucial to open the market to foreign players in order to successfully achieve the ambitious goals of transitioning to ZEBs. At UITP, we aim to enhance the quality of life and boost economic prosperity by promoting sustainable transport solutions in urban areas worldwide. We are working hand in hand with our members to achieve this vision. 🌍✨ Yesterday, 05 June 2024, I had the privilege of attending the National Trade Delegation from Slovenia to Rotterdam event at BlueCity (010). It was an incredible experience, filled with enriching conversations and connections with a diverse group of individuals, including mayors, politicians, investors, professors from universities, and professionals with decades of experience in the circular built environment, energy, and food sectors from both the Netherlands and Slovenia. The whole stakeholder community was gathered in one place for 11 hours, creating a unique atmosphere of collaboration and innovation. The openness and willingness to share experiences, advice, and feedback were truly inspiring. The delegates' commitment to radical collaboration and their journey mirrored the challenges we face today, making their insights invaluable. The presentations and storytelling sessions were enlightening, offering practical solutions to the struggles we encounter. I am thrilled by the enthusiastic responses and the many "yes in principle" agreements and interests for collaboration. This event has not only deepened our connections but also strengthened our resolve to drive systemic and disruptive change in the market to address the climate-housing crisis. It is tough, and we need tough people who dare to change. A special thanks to the Slovene Dutch Business Platform - SDBP and Holland Circular Hotspot for providing the opportunity for connection, communication, and radical collaboration. Additionally, I would like to acknowledge the representatives from EIT initiatives such as EIT Climate-KIC, our angel investor, and EIT New European Bauhaus for their invaluable contributions.
