Democracy Day is upon us once again, but it's hard to feel celebratory when our nation's democratic ideals seem so distant.
And yet, I still believe in the power of democracy to transform our beloved country.
I still have hope that one day, we will restore meaning to concepts like freedom of speech, freedom of the press, and the rule of law.
Hope that one day, leaders will emerge who truly represent the will of the people rather than self-interest.
It will not be easy.
Positive change never is.
We may have lost our way, but the ideals of democracy still burn brightly in the hearts of Nigerians who yearn for a better future.
It's up to us, as engaged citizens, to fan those flames into an inextinguishable fire for good governance.
So today, let's use this Democracy Day not just to lament how far we've fallen but to renew our resolve.
Our diversity can be our strength, not a curse, if only we allow it. Our voices may seem small but united. They can move mountains.
I dream of a Nigeria where democracy is more than just a word - it's a living, breathing force for human rights, justice, and inclusive prosperity.
It's the dream that lives on despite all our trials.
And it's why, even in the darkest moments, I still have hope. ✊🏽"
