I’ve come to understand that the cancer journey can feel isolating at times. We’re surrounded by people, but still, it’s hard to find someone who truly understands what we’re going through. That’s why I created Morning Talks—a special space where we don’t need to explain every little detail. Here, the people around us just get it. It’s not about being strong every day. It’s about creating a safe environment where you can be honest, vulnerable, and even uncertain. Whether you’re in the middle of treatment or just starting the recovery process, you deserve a space where you can open up. Sometimes, we just need to talk. Sometimes, we just need to be heard. Morning Talks is a gathering of women who understand that healing isn’t linear. It’s a rollercoaster of emotions, and no one should have to ride it alone. Come as you are, and know that there’s no right or wrong way to participate. Whether you feel like sharing your story or simply being present, you’ll find a community that will meet you where you are with love, support, and understanding. If that sounds like something you need, we’d love to welcome you to our next session. 💗 Join us for free on our next session happening on October 30. #PreventionIsPower: Education is the cornerstone of reducing cancer risk. By promoting healthy lifestyle changes, smoking cessation, nutritious eating, and regular screenings, we can make a significant impact on cancer prevention. Yet, disparities in patient-provider communication, especially for Black women, continue to hinder progress. (Guimond, Elizabeth et al., 2022) Resources informed in collaboration with Black women living in Washington, D.C.’s East of the River communities with support from Black Women Thriving East of the River, are now available to help Black women living East of the River communities initiate critical conversations with their providers about cancer risk reduction. Visit www.thrivingeotr.org to access these tools and more. Providers, how do you engage in meaningful discussions with your patients who identify as Black females about cancer prevention? Together, we can break down these barriers and help Black women thrive. #BWTEotR #BWCPBoR #PatientEmpowerment #CancerPrevention #Cancer #BlackWomenThriving #BlackWomensHealth #ThriveTogetherStriveTogether #CancerPrevention #BlackWomenThrive #HealthEquity #DCHealth #PatientAdvocacy #ClosingTheGap

Today’s women’s behavioral healthcare networking luncheon hosted by April Landry, RN was a great way to step into October, a month dedicated to bringing attention to two crucial causes: Breast Cancer Awareness and Domestic Violence Awareness. 🎗️ Breast Cancer Awareness: This month, we honor the fighters, support the survivors, and remember those we’ve lost. Early detection is key, and regular screenings can make a life-saving difference. Let’s spread the word about self-examinations and the importance of mammograms. Together, we can empower one another and provide support to those affected. 💜 Domestic Violence Awareness: Domestic violence knows no boundaries and affects individuals across all walks of life. It's vital to create safe spaces for conversations and to educate ourselves and others about the signs and support available. Remember, it’s okay to speak up, and it’s essential to stand together against abuse in any form. Let’s use this month not just to raise awareness, but to take action. Whether it’s sharing resources, participating in events, or simply checking in with someone you care about, every effort counts. 💪💖 #TheNextDoorRecovery #FreemanRecoveryCenter

October is more than fall leaves & Halloween—it's about hope, strength & saving lives. It is a poignant reminder of some of the personal battles women face, while for others, it represents an opportunity to express solidarity with the over 2 million women diagnosed globally each year. This month not only highlights the critical importance of health but also underscores the need for sustainable approaches to healthcare that promote early detection, effective treatment, and comprehensive support systems. By fostering a culture of awareness and action, we can enhance both individual and community resilience in the fight against breast cancer. #BreastCancer #BreastCancerAwareness #Awareness #WomenHealth #Everyone_has_the_right_to_a_healthy_life. #GoodHealthandWellBeing #Sustainability.

Childhood Cancer Facts — United States 👉Childhood cancer research is consistently underfunded. 👉Each day, 47 children are diagnosed with cancer in the United States, which means more than 17,000 children in the U.S. are diagnosed each year. 👉Cancer is the leading cause of death by disease in American children, resulting in the death of approximately 1,800 kids each year. 👉There are approximately 500,000 childhood cancer survivors in the United States. 👉In the United States, 85% of children diagnosed with cancer are alive at least five years after diagnosis; however this does not mean they are cured or free from long-term side effects. 👉Even those who are cured may suffer long-term side effects as a result of the cancer treatments they received. Children who were treated for cancer are twice as likely to suffer chronic health conditions later in life versus children without a history of cancer.
