Have you ever fallen for the allure of "going it alone"? I have––most recently on my last vacation. Years ago, I stumbled upon stories of the Trans-Labrador Highway in Canada, aka "the loneliest road in the world," and couldn’t help but be intrigued. As a tech leader, we’re often tempted to believe we're at our best in “loneliness” and that flying solo is the most advantageous choice. This seductive thought manifests in many ways: "I'm the only one who can deliver at this level." "I work better alone." "It's faster to do it myself than to bring someone else up to speed." Sound familiar? The Reality Check Last month, I took a vacation and drove the Trans-Labrador Highway and––spoiler alert––“the loneliest road" isn't so lonely after all. Much like our careers, the journey revealed some surprising truths: - Interdependence is key: The next gas station might be 300 miles away but it’s still crucial. In tech, we're equally reliant on unseen support systems. - Shared experiences magnify joy: My two adult sons joined the trip, transforming it from a solitary trek to an unforgettable adventure. Collaboration in our professional field can have the same effect. - Community thrives in unlikely places: The "isolated" locals form tight-knit communities out of necessity. There's a powerful lesson here for building resilient teams. The Leadership Challenge Next time you're tempted to go it alone, remember: - Acknowledge the hidden contributors to your "solo" achievements. - Consider that your preference for doing it on your own might just indicate an opportunity to develop stronger community-building skills. What's your "I'm best on my own" story? Share your experiences in the comments! #TechLeadership #Teamwork #PersonalGrowth

Love this video from Isabelle Bertolami! Who else agrees? Moving abroad should be life-changing and provide opportunities for personal growth and development. And how cool that as mobility professionals and people leaders we can give people this "superhuman confidence"? After living abroad, I gained the confidence to do things I never thought possible, like loving solo travel, seeking out new challenges, and starting a company. I am now hard pressed to be in a room/situation that I feel I can't handle. It's important to give people the opportunity to experience this transformational experience. This is why I am so passionate about starting and growing Pivt Enterprise, so people can take life changing opportunities and make the most of them…anywhere. #innovation #hrtech #employeeexperience

Living & Working Anywhere: Welcome to the Workcation Era Technology has truly redefined how and where we work. Here I am in Playa Del Carmen, Mexico, enjoying a “workcation”—a blend of work and vacation that allows me to keep pushing my projects forward from anywhere in the world. We’re living in an incredible era. With technology advancing faster than ever, we can use it for good: traveling, exploring, and connecting with new people and cultures, all while staying engaged in our careers. And for those of us in film and television? The possibilities are endless. Whether it’s creating blockbuster movies, TV shows, or short-form content, we now have tools at our fingertips to bring big ideas to life from wherever we are. No longer tethered to traditional studios or specific locations, we can greenlight our own projects, pursuing our passions without borders. Soon enough, I’ll be back home in the New York/New Jersey area, but I’m enjoying every second of this. Exciting times, indeed. Now that you can Greenlight Yourself™, the question is: What will you create?

"𝐖𝐇𝐄𝐍 𝐈𝐒 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐁𝐄𝐒𝐓 𝐓𝐈𝐌𝐄 𝐓𝐎 𝐌𝐎𝐕𝐄 𝐎𝐕𝐄𝐑𝐒𝐄𝐀𝐒 𝐖𝐈𝐓𝐇 𝐌𝐘 𝐂𝐇𝐈𝐋𝐃𝐑𝐄𝐍?" Getting the timing right when you move abroad is important. And by this, I mean all kinds of timing, such as the time of year - not just their age... However, what's most important is considering the age at which they move for the very 𝐹𝐼𝑅𝑆𝑇 time. This may not actually mean moving abroad, either. It's all about the upheaval, the change, the transition, their resilience and more than I can write in a single post. A child who moved for the first time as a toddler and then moved again as a seven year old and again a few years later, will manage the whole event in a completely different way from a child who moved for the very first time, aged 11. And it's even more challenging if they move for the very first time as a teenager... 😖 𝐈𝐟 𝐲𝐨𝐮'𝐝 𝐥𝐢𝐤𝐞 𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐬𝐞𝐝 𝐚𝐝𝐯𝐢𝐜𝐞, 𝐝𝐫𝐨𝐩 𝐦𝐞 𝐚 𝐃𝐌 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐢𝐧𝐟𝐨 #expat #moveabroad #Globalmobility
