Have you ever fallen for the allure of "going it alone"? I have––most recently on my last vacation. Years ago, I stumbled upon stories of the Trans-Labrador Highway in Canada, aka "the loneliest road in the world," and couldn’t help but be intrigued. As a tech leader, we’re often tempted to believe we're at our best in “loneliness” and that flying solo is the most advantageous choice. This seductive thought manifests in many ways: "I'm the only one who can deliver at this level." "I work better alone." "It's faster to do it myself than to bring someone else up to speed." Sound familiar? The Reality Check Last month, I took a vacation and drove the Trans-Labrador Highway and––spoiler alert––“the loneliest road" isn't so lonely after all. Much like our careers, the journey revealed some surprising truths: - Interdependence is key: The next gas station might be 300 miles away but it’s still crucial. In tech, we're equally reliant on unseen support systems. - Shared experiences magnify joy: My two adult sons joined the trip, transforming it from a solitary trek to an unforgettable adventure. Collaboration in our professional field can have the same effect. - Community thrives in unlikely places: The "isolated" locals form tight-knit communities out of necessity. There's a powerful lesson here for building resilient teams. The Leadership Challenge Next time you're tempted to go it alone, remember: - Acknowledge the hidden contributors to your "solo" achievements. - Consider that your preference for doing it on your own might just indicate an opportunity to develop stronger community-building skills. What's your "I'm best on my own" story? Share your experiences in the comments! #TechLeadership #Teamwork #PersonalGrowth

How was your 2024? Mine was like 🤟⚡💚🙌🎉💡🤤☺️👍 ⚡⚡⚡ Three different roles within E.ON Drive Infrastructure ✈️ ✈️ ✈️ Flown six times Copenhagen - Düsseldorf ✈️ ✈️ ✈️ 🚙 Driven 39.674 km in EVs for business related matters all over Europe ☺️ 🚄 Travelled 60+ times with trains for business related matters across Europe 🚄 😎 😎 😎 Enjoyed three months of sabbatical in June, July and August travelling by #Interrail across #Europe ⛴️ Been back to one of my favorite destinations outside of the Danish border; The Faroe Islands 🇫🇴 But most important of 2024; I made a transformation of myself 🤯 Not physically but mentally 🤟🤫 Going from being Managing Director, to Head of Business Development to #CXO has been the most fun, challenging and "upside - loop - down again" experience I have ever done 💚 Love to challenge myself, redo the standard of the normal, but also activating and controlling the popcorn brain in a new way 🤯😉🫣 I know, I know the above is 😇 😇 😇 Sooooo, let us start by not just showing our successes here at #LinkedIn, but let's be frank and also share our lessons learned from the not so AMAZING side of life... 🤔 Letting go and firing people is #NEVER a cool part of the job, but when you are afterwards thinking of "this didn't go well, we didn't get the message across properly, and we didn't explain to the key stakeholders, why the decision was taken", this often takes me quite some time to process and rethink over and over again, how we could have done it better 🫨 🥹 Accepting the fact of the business world is not static, but dynamic - saying auf wiedersehen to one of my greatest Managers of all times, without a proper explanation or understanding of why.. 🚙 The fact that EV sites are not performing as expected throughout #Europe and the even harder work now starts to figure out, what we can do different or better to show, how great it is to go electric... 🥺 and the toughest thing I have done so far in my professional life; to let go of my amazing team in E.ON Drive Infrastructure #Denmark with whom we cleaned, structured, and rebuilt Denmark largest CPO to regain it's position, and accept that I took the decision to step down as Managing Director.. Which I did, as I could not fulfill my own expectations and ambitions within the political and almost monopolistic market of charging in #Denmark, not focusing on the #GreenTransistion, but focusing on market dominance by setting growth and revenue first, covered in fancy consulting wording.. It was simply eating me up, especially all the people who don't see the emperor is not wearing any clothes.. 💚 so just for you to know, I'm thriving in my new role, love being back in an international/European role working amongst different, hence dominated by the #German, cultures and see what it means to a company having the right people, as we are ONLY 140 FTEs busting our #rears off to ensure - Charging for everyone, everywhere 💚 See you all in 2025 - Happy New Year 🎉

Love this video from Isabelle Bertolami! Who else agrees? Moving abroad should be life-changing and provide opportunities for personal growth and development. And how cool that as mobility professionals and people leaders we can give people this "superhuman confidence"? After living abroad, I gained the confidence to do things I never thought possible, like loving solo travel, seeking out new challenges, and starting a company. I am now hard pressed to be in a room/situation that I feel I can't handle. It's important to give people the opportunity to experience this transformational experience. This is why I am so passionate about starting and growing Pivt Enterprise, so people can take life changing opportunities and make the most of them…anywhere. #innovation #hrtech #employeeexperience

Moving to a new country is the ultimate change. When you consider moving to a new country you need to think beyond the dream and research the details. Think about how you will live on a daily basis and validate your research either with a coach or qualified specialist to understand how you will adapt your lifestyle, what compromises you will make and the realistic expectations you should have. It is always best to speak with someone who currently lives there, or who previously lived there and still has contacts there for the latest information. The best resource is someone who knows your home country and your host country so they can empathize and relate to your experience. Our coaches have personal experience in the locations they support and a network of friends in other places. The strength of our network gives us the accuracy and ability to personalize our relocation guidance. Cost of living for housing, transportation, utility bills, healthcare/public services and food should always be researched. Nomadlist (*we are not an affiliate or paid to recommend them) and other similar websites are a great resource to start with. Beyond the logistics, you need to know about the culture. How do people socialize, is it planned or spontaneous? What’s the dating culture like? The political climate? Are they welcoming to immigrants and expats? How are decisions made or conflict in the workplace handled? What do they consider respectful and disrespectful in their culture? Each culture has its own rhythm and the accuracy of your expectations and knowledge level of the culture will help you adapt and adjust. The more you know about the quirks of the culture before you live there, the better so you can consider the impact of these changes on you and on anyone else who is relocating with you. Can Mithila Adopt The Swiss Life ? I have very fond memories of my trip to Zurich to spend some time with my customers at Absolute AG. I became very good friends with Patrick Erni, who was a great project lead and architect and whose gentle ways were appreciated by all engineers. The founder Puneet Lal, was a typical overseas Indian operator (ended up not paying our last bill) but quite charismatic and dynamic. I remember being fascinated by the Swiss tech lifestyle. Usually, you could stay in your village and work from home and visit the city (Zurich) only for meetings or as needed. The “village” was a heaven - clean, green with big open spaces. With all the essentials for moden living, yet connected with nature, your community in ways that a city could never be. My native home, Mithila, can aspire to a similar lifestyle today. COVID has shown us that both software as well as other “office” jobs can be done remotely over internet. Mithila’s villages are still intact and agriculture is the dominant activity. Its biggest city, Darbhanga is about an hour’s commute given the good roads. Internet connectivity is good, physical connectivity has been achieved with the airport and the new AIIMS promises world class healthcare locally. What is needed is for local government to push this agenda and for local businesses, professionals to take up the new opportunity and build a new work culture. I firmly believe this is possible in the next 10 years and has the potential to change Mithila’s trajectory from decline to global acceptance as an IT talent hub. If you would like to join me on this journey, do submit your profile and personal detail using the google form link provided. We seek to build a pool of talent that we can take to large IT companies, global tech companies and kick start Mithila’s IT journey with your help.
