Our Beekeeping Education & Technical Coordinator, Hannah Neil, taught the team how to use NOD’s very own beeswax to make candles and fire-starters! We love to educate ourselves on great ways to keep busy in the winter and make the best of all our beeswax collected from this year. ❄️ 🐝 Thank you to Hannah for providing such a fun, educational activity! #beeeducation #healthybeeshealthyplanet #nodapiary #beekeeping

No single honeybee can live on its own for very long. While the collective hive could live forever, the individual bees are mortal, and they depend on each other to survive. https://bit.ly/3V7w1cI #foxhoundbeeco #beekeeping #beekeepingtips

#snsinstitutions #snsdesignthinkers #designthinking INSECTS QUEUE Insects queuing up is a fascinating aspect of their behavior, especially in social insects like ants and bees. In a bustling ant colony, there's a constant flow of activity as ants scurry about their tasks. One particular area of the colony is designated for gathering food. Here, a line of ants forms, stretching from a food source back to the colony entrance. At the front of the queue, diligent foragers scout out new food sources and mark the trail with pheromones to guide their fellow ants. As they find food, they pick up a piece and head back to the colony, following the scent trail they've laid down. Behind them, a steady stream of ants follows the pheromone trail, marching in single file toward the food source. Each ant carries its own tiny burden, adding to the collective effort of the colony. Occasionally, there may be interruptions in the queue. Perhaps an obstacle blocks the path, or a particularly tempting food source diverts some ants away from the main trail. However, the resilience of the colony ensures that the queue quickly re-forms, with ants adjusting their paths to accommodate changes in the environment. The queue line of ants serves not only as a means of efficiently transporting food but also as a communication network, allowing information to flow seamlessly throughout the colony. Through their coordinated efforts, the ants ensure the survival and prosperity of their community.

In many residential communities, pets are considered a part of the family. Recognizing this, HOAs are increasingly seeking ways to accommodate pets while maintaining community standards and harmony. Crafting pet-friendly policies is not just about allowing pets; it's about integrating them into the community in a way that respects all residents' needs and preferences. Let's explore how HOAs can develop policies that are beneficial to pet owners and non-pet owners alike. https://lnkd.in/eG9UFwHr

Beekeeping with HiveSens: Embracing Nature, Patience, and Technology for Success in the Hive Beekeeping is one of the jobs where the working environment is in harmony with nature. This job is associated with pleasure and surprises, and people who intend to work in this job should have enough will and patience. It also needs people with the spirit of living in nature and working with insects. While the beekeeping job has a lot of fun and excitement, it is one of the most challenging jobs, and people who are not lively can't succeed. This job can be introduced as the first job for people who have a lot of physical activity, and it is a very lucrative job. The reason for choosing lively people for this job is the need for hives for continuous monitoring and protection. The beekeeper must constantly check the hives to prevent any possible damage to the hive and the bees. By providing imaging and audio monitoring services, HiveSens checks the entry and exit of hives, the sound patterns of hives, the presence of pests on the bees' bodies, and other environmental factors of the hive and provides it to the beekeeper. This service is a great help to the beekeeper and can reduce the fatigue of beekeeping work. We hope to make beekeeping more enjoyable by providing extensive services to monitor the health of bees and hives. #beekeeper #bee #honey #swarming #AI #innovation #hive #farmin #humidty #Beecolony

Last night at Council, we discussed the ongoing issue of leash-free dog areas. As I mentioned at the meeting, the Highland Gate area should not be considered for the addition of a leash-free zone. The Highland Gate park was developed after extensive discussions between the developer, staff, council, and residents, and the settlement agreement outlined what the park would and would not include and it did not include a leash free zone. I’m glad that after hearing from neighboring residents, Council decided to remove Highland Gate from consideration and any future discussions about leash-free areas. We should always involve the neighborhood in discussions about leash-free areas before Council makes a decision. After thorough deliberation, I am pleased that Council passed the following motion with a 7-0 vote: 1. That staff identify suitable areas in Aurora for dog leash-free zones and/or trails, specifically on the west side, and report back to Council. 2. That public consultation take place on the proposed areas before reporting back. 3. That Highland Gate be removed from consideration for an off-leash dog area. This ensures that before any future leash-free area is considered , (this includes the hydro corridor) that the neighborhood is consulted and fully informed. It also guarantees that the Highland Gate park area will remain as agreed upon by residents, the Town, and the developer as a passive park through the settlement agreement. https://lnkd.in/g2GgVn3C

A huge shoutout to our Melbourne Water team, Rebecca Kolb and K9 Rain, who hit a massive milestone in their training with our Mentoring Program—Rain is now finding and alerting Bec to invasive South African Weed Orchids in the field! 🐕🌿🎉 This kind of success doesn’t happen overnight. It takes time, patience, and lots of dedication from both the dog and handler. ⏳💪 And it hasn’t been a walk in the park. 🐕🦺 Putting a new dog team (canine and handler) on a plant target as a first odour can be challenging. It’s not the kind of scent a dog typically gravitates towards (unlike stinky scats and carcasses), so the communication between dog and handler needs to be nuanced and precise. 📍 At times, our job as mentors has simply been to remind Bec to trust the process and trust her dog. 😅👍 But those little triumphs and trials along the way are all part of what makes it so very rewarding when everything finally clicks into place and you get those real wins. 🏆✨ There’s still plenty more learning ahead for this team, with more milestones to reach. But we just wanted to take the opportunity to celebrate this BIG one. 🎊🙌 No one forgets their first real find(s)! 😁🌟 Well done team. 👏 #ConservationDog #MentoringProgram #Teamwork #FirstFind
