Time for another coffee? Today I am at the store located at Sperry Avenue, California. Yours truly is waving the flag on behalf of the construction team, as I visit the store. It’s a hot day, so I switched over from Coffee to a Poppin’Boba Berry Lemonade. It’s delicious! Shout out to the team at the store. They are busy , but find the time for a quick conversation. It’s past 6 pm, so I decided to mount my trusty steed and ride into the sunset. Tomorrow is another day and another store. That’s a story for another day. I learned valuable insight on retail for mid/value range market: how players ballance the service and value pricing, and what to sacrifice. I am at Burlington Stores, Inc. at Harlem today, and my spouse want to stop by and end up find something to buy. We waited 1 hr to pay. A record of waiting in line to pay. I witness only 4 registers opened on busy Saturday afternoon, while approximately more than 30 people at all time on the line. Is this normal for this market? It makes me wonder, does social economic has anything to do with this arrangement and I do honestly want my peers in retail industry to weigh in on this reality. Does this make sense? It this a one time issue? Is this economic decision? Or is this the culture of the store? Or corporate cultute? I found this unassuring. While 5 others associate busy on who knows what, not to mention scary security watching every move... Sigh....

Mr SHOREDITCH UPDATE 📍 The office market is continuing to show a solid level of traction, most of which is coming into the 2-5k sq ft bracket. Demand focused on prime, fully-fitted space with a lot of requirements looking for character warehouse space. The retail market is much stronger for prime with Redchurch Street becoming sought-after again. There’s a number of very exciting global fashion brands wanting footprint in the area but a lack of prime stock. Secondary retail is still challenging though there’s not a huge amount of supply. The F&B market is continuing to go from strength to strength with the Shoreditch food scene becoming one of the best in London. There’s a couple of very exciting deals that we’re working on which will increase this further. As always we’re on the ground dealing with a lot of interesting on and off market deals and requirements so reach out to discuss yours.

Here is my latest article in Spacing Magazine! Have you noticed a decrease in community space in your neighbourhoods? Feeling like you've got no where to go? You're probably experiencing the decline of 'third places'. After a recent renovation made my local Starbucks significantly less welcoming to customers looking to lounge, I was inspired to explore the decline of social spaces outside of the home and work. Starbucks has for decades prided itself on providing this third place, and has earned a brand image building community space through their locations. But recent statements they've made and location design changes that go against their purported brand ethos reveal that this may no longer be their priority.
