Mundelein Tool Library is a Spotlight winner in the 2024 NIA Nonprofit Photo Contest. An all-volunteer, community-based nonprofit tool-lending library, they provide access to high-quality, well-maintained tools to all residents, whatever their socioeconomic status may be, making home repair accessible to everyone. Additionally, tool sharing also eliminates waste and negative environmental effects of manufacturing and shipping for tools that may only be used by an individual once or twice a year. A PRO fit for non-profits How The Trail Conservancy uses Bitly QR Codes to build community connections "Tools like QR Codes have revolutionized our approach to messaging," said COO Hanna Morgan Cofer. "We now incorporate QR Codes into just about everything we do! All of our signs—temporary and permanent—connect back to detailed information on our website. (They) are the most effective way to communicate about our projects, ecological initiatives, trail etiquette, giving opportunities, programs, and events. They allow us to have ongoing, consistent communication with the community." If you've been on any part of the Ann and Roy Butler Hike-and-Bike Trail in downtown Austin, Texas, you'll know that TTC's use of QR Codes is comprehensive. One can't take many steps (or pedal far) without seeing signage helping visitors navigate the trail, get information about improvements, identify a tree or plant, or donate to support TTC's mission. Bitly's QR Codes help non-profits (and businesses, too), like The Trail Conservancy, make every connection count!

The film 'UNCharitable' is an absolute must-see for everyone. It eloquently elucidates the crucial aspect of nonprofits operating with a business mindset. Yet, beyond that, it delves into the necessity of overhead costs. Brimming with passion and rich with experiences, it encapsulates the essence of nonprofit endeavors, where amidst tales of triumph, there are also moments of sorrow and setbacks. The driving force behind the creation of this movie was to amplify its message far and wide. It's not just a recommendation; it's a call to action. Everyone should watch 'Charitable.' It's imperative that we all do, for it holds the power to propel nonprofits forward, enabling them to extend their reach and aid even more individuals in need.

Happy Earth Day! While it’s true that every day is Earth Day, I also know that symbolic days are often just the prompt we need to give to a worthy cause. If you’re looking for such a cause today, please consider donating to Milkweed Editions. Milkweed is publishing some incredible books that represent a range of cultural diversity, address some of today’s greatest ecological challenges, and explore our relationship to place and the more-than-human world—books like Braiding Sweetgrass by Robin Wall Kimmerer, World of Wonders by Aimee Nezhukumatathil, and my personal favorite, Diary of a Young Naturalist by Dara McAnulty. These books change the way people see and live in the world, and that is powerful. (And if you’re looking for other Earth Day charity recs, may I suggest Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC), Grist, Clean Water Action Minnesota, and Save the Boundary Waters?) https://lnkd.in/gdCA4QZi

After seven years and a couple hundred recertifications, I can tell you that there is one thing that sets apart the culture of brands that actively engage in conservation and those that just claim to: They keep their commitment to conservation in front of their decision-makers’ eyes at all times. And I mean physically in front of them - usually on a whiteboard or screen in their board/conference room. Every time they are making decisions for their business, that data is in front of them. It reminds them of their “why” and informs marketing, collaboration, and community building. And you can see that influence in their outsized impact for wildlife compared to brands with much deeper pockets (but more shallow focus).
Our most successful members use their recertification to enhance their businesses - not just to report their charitable giving to conservation. This morning, our business members received our three tips to get the most out of their annual recertification with us, and we are sharing the piece with you as well! https://lnkd.in/ghZesz9u

S-E-A is going green in April to celebrate #EarthMonth! We are often witness to the aftermath of catastrophes that have an outsized impact on our environment. Hurricanes, wildfires and environmental accidents, to name a few, along with deforestation, destroy large swaths of our planet’s jungles and forests each year. This is why we are excited to bring back our One Matter. One Tree. campaign. Working with a non-profit organization that focuses on deforestation, for each case submitted from April 1st through the 30th, S-E-A will donate funds to plant a tree. One matter, one tree. We’re excited to give back for Earth Month through this initiative by helping to make our world a bit greener.
