Human Rights Day is celebrated each year around the world as a commemoration of the 1948 United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights. The document details the universality of such rights and suggestions for how those may be recognized by governing bodies. Today is a day to reflect on how people’s rights are defined, realized, violated, protected, and guaranteed, and to commit to defending the rights and dignity of all people.

Our Rights, Our Future, Right Now. This year's theme for International Human Rights day is a call to acknowledge the importance and relevance of human rights in our everyday lives, from fighting hate speech, countering mis/disinformation, and beyond.

December 10 is known as Human Rights Day, the anniversary of the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights by the United Nations. As a peacebuilding organization, upholding the human rights and dignity of all individuals and uplifting those who often have their human rights challenged is one of our core values. Part of building and advancing peace is understanding how we can work to ensure that no one is left behind or excluded in the expression and experience of human rights. Human rights are rights that everyone should have simply because they are human. In 1948, the United Nations defined 30 articles of human rights in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. It established universal human rights on the basis of humanity, freedom, justice, and peace.

Today is Human Rights Day, celebrated to promote and protect the fundamental rights and freedoms of all people, and to raise awareness of human rights issues. On this day in 1948, the United Nations General Assembly adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR). The theme for this year is "Our Rights, Our Future, Right Now". The theme emphasizes that #humanrights are not just aspirational but also a practical tool for empowering individuals and communities to create a better future.
