Can you guess what this is? Hint: it's not a DJ's soundboard. It’s a Taber(r) Dual Head Rotary Platform Abrasion Tester - Model 1750!! We use it to evaluate the abrasion resistance of glove materials. To perform the test, we cut fabric samples from the glove's palm, secure them on an adhesive sample disk and mounted onto the turntable, and ceramic abrasion wheel roll over the sample with a consistent weight of 500g or 1000g. The ceramic wheels wear a circular pattern on the sample that covers an approximate area of 30 cm^2. The goal? To see how many cycles the material can endure before the material fails and a hole forms. This is crucial for determining overall durability of a glove. Under the ANSI/ISEA 105 standard, gloves are rated based on how many cycles they can withstand. Here’s a breakdown: 🧤 Level 1: Must resist at least 100 cycles at 500g 🧤 Level 2: 500 cycles at 500 g 🧤 Level 3: 1000 cycles at 500g 🧤Level 4: 3000 cycles at 1000g 🧤 Level 5: 10,000 cycles at 1000g 🧤 Level 6: Must endure 20,000 cycles or more at 1000g These tests are a key part of ensuring safety and performance, and they’re conducted right here at our MX91 Testing Laboratory.
