90% of leadership development programs fail. Why? It's really simple. It's commonly accepted that each leader is unique. Unique strengths. Unique challenges. Unique life experiences. And when we want to help them develop their leadership craft? We make them do cookie-cutter, out-of-the-box, painfully generic leadership development. Now, before anyone gets angry at me in the comments, I completely get how we found ourselves here. L&D needs to be scalable. We want consistency in our approach. Etc. etc. BUT There needs to be a balance between scalability and consistency AND flexibility to respond and make the experience meaningful for the individual.
