Modern building codes require garage doors to be wind-rated, but it can be difficult to know which doors are rated and which aren’t. Look for a label that shows it’s rated for wind pressures. If you’re not sure whether it is wind-rated, it’s best to purchase a new one that is. https://lnkd.in/eJCGBB66

The best time to see all the bits of a house that will make it work properly, is half-way through the build. So, it's great that Formance organise a bunch of mid-build open homes. Once a home is completed, you don't get to see the insulation, the ventilation system, how well everything is sealed to make it airtight and how well everything is connected to reduce thermal bridging. Come and check out the important bits without being distracted by the bling. https://lnkd.in/gn9uJr7K

Is thermal bridging damaging the performance of your new homes? A thermal bridge (or cold bridge) is a ‘thermal weak spot’ in the fabric of a building, where heat can pass in or out more easily. They can prevent your home from delivering its designed thermal performance – so how can you prevent them from occurring? FAQ Friday Q: Does a building with a SIP roof need to be ventilated? A. The area inside a SIP building envelope is considered conditioned space and will be ventilated by the building’s HVAC system. There is no need to provide a vented attic beneath a SIP roof as venting would compromise the conditioned space of the building. Summary: SIP roofs save you $150-450 per vent required in conventional attic space. #BuildWithSIPs #PanelizedRoof #ThermalPerformance #ConditionedAttic #NoVentAttic https://lnkd.in/gfFrhAfT
