We know recycling is possible. We have already done it with chemical and mechanical recycling partners to produce commercial textile products. At Lounais-Suomen Jätehuolto Oy (LSJH) we are working hard to find new solutions in various supply chains for the raw material to return the valuable materials back into circulation. As a waste management company one of most important tasks is also to inform our residents how not to produce waste as consumers have a leading role in the pace of change of textile recycling. #CircularModel – The Future of Textile Recycling in 2025 In the coming years, the European Union will require mandatory planned collection and disposal of textile waste from all member states. To meet these goals, building an efficient recycling system is crucial, starting from product design all the way to final processing. This step will not only reduce our ecological footprint but also open new economic opportunities through recycling and material reuse. The Green-Tex project is working on innovative solutions for collecting, recycling, and reusing textile waste in various regions, including the implementation of digital tools, such as online maps of collection points. THREADs is advancing sustainable textile waste management in the NPA region! The project consists of three different Work Packages (WPs), and in this series we'll introduce those packages in a nutshell. The WP1 of THREADs is called "Developing textile waste collection and sorting". The goal of the WP is to improve collection, sorting, and treatment systems of textile waste, while driving the transition to a circular fashion industry.
