reading the report from Mario Draghi and this line stands out so far: "For example, we claim to favour innovation, but we continue to add regulatory burdens onto European companies, which are especially costly for SMEs and self-defeating for those in the digital sectors. More than half of SMEs in Europe flag regulatory obstacles and the administrative burden as their greatest challenge." find the report here: https://lnkd.in/dcBYK3aY Note:

👏🎥We fondly look back at the high-level event: “Boosting the EU Single Market: Towards the Single Digital Gateway 2.0” organised by the European Commission under the patronage of the 2024 Belgian Council Presidency, kicked-off by our Deputy Director-General Maive Rute and Mathieu MICHEL Belgian Secretary of State for Digitalisation. The event explored how digital public services can further improve the functioning of the EU Single Market, and how the Single Digital Gateway in particular is helping to bring about that change. ❗️📄This ties in with the Letta report, which exploits the current political and social momentum to bring a new vision for the Single Market. The Single Digital Gateway is the tool to create a more dynamic Single Market with a focus on more digitalised administrative processes for businesses and specifically SMEs. ESPON explores the critical issue of access to essential services in Europe's lagging regions. Key findings from our Policy Brief prepared for the Hungarian EU presidency: 👉Recognise that "inner peripheries" exist whenever a territory is distinctively less accessible than the areas in its surroundings 👉Acknowledge that service facility closures have financial and social impact and can lead to social unrest 👉A combination of top-down (on regulations) and bottom-up (collaborative, place-based initiatives) is needed to address the challenges of service provision 👉Digital technologies are key, but physical access to services of general interest remains equally important and can be ensured via collaboration and innovative approaches Read more https://loom.ly/IImaUVM

Yesterday was the first gathering for the Ministry of Transport and Communications appointed high-level interministerial working group, called the Digital Panel. I'm glad to be one of the Panel members. The objective of the Digital Panel is to find and create new initiatives and approaches that have not been identified yet. These will support the development of society, improve business conditions and create growth. The purpose of the Digital Panel is to find ways to implement the digital transformation and introduce new technologies in a manner that is safe and considers the risks. The Digital Panel will also support Finland's effectiveness in the EU and globally by highlighting initiatives that are important to Finland relating to the digital transformation, the data economy and technological development. You can read more about the Panel's work in comments. Photo credits: Kirsi Karlamaa #digitalization #töissäkelassa #DigitalPanel

💡 Take a look at FTI Consulting EU's overview of #Draghi's report — offering valuable insights from our colleagues Hans Hack and Martin Porter. Mario Draghi’s latest report lays out the challenges the EU is facing, especially the glaring gap in private investment compared to the US, which poses a significant threat to the EU's competitiveness. Both private and public investment levels are falling short, highlighting the urgent need for action to support the EU’s green and digital ambitions. As Ursula von der Leyen stated, the time for an "Investment Commission" is now—and Draghi’s report echoes this sentiment. It serves as a subtle but clear call to Member States, who hold the keys to the EU’s €2 trillion budget. However, until these proposals are integrated into Commissioners’ mission letters, it remains just a report. In a time of rising geopolitical tensions, Draghi’s report also strengthens von der Leyen’s mandate for her second term. Similar to Enrico Letta’s recent proposals in the area of financial services, it advocates for a more integrated European financial market, focusing on mobilising savings to drive transitions, reviewing the securitisation framework, and strengthening ESMA's supervisory powers. Draghi also points to the challenges posed by regulatory complexities within the Single Market, particularly for SMEs, and calls attention to the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive and Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive as significant burdens. Among the key proposals, Draghi suggests reassessing capital requirements, particularly for insurers (#SolvencyII) – a move already opposed by the new Chair of the Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs Aurore Lalucq. Meanwhile, influential German lawmaker Markus Ferber, MdEP has criticised the proposal to issue common debt. Signals that the road towards concrete legislative proposals may not be smooth. 📅 What next? 17 Sept – Draghi’s Address in European Parliament 8 Nov – Declaration on Draghi Report by EUCO #EU #investment #greenanddigital #competitiveness #Draghi
