As we wrap up the year, we caught up with three of our inspiring Innovation Award winners at our last incubator of the year (kindly hosted by Kristy Evers & ImpactEd Group) to hear what they've learnt so far and their plans for 2025: ⭐ Yasmin B. & Yusuf Ben-Tarifite from The Aspiring Medics are driving change with their AI-powered platform. With over 600 students already engaged in their research, they’re focusing on impact and evaluation, ensuring their work delivers measurable, meaningful outcomes.   🎓 Molly Forbes from The Body Happy Organisation has secured funding for a PhD student in partnership with the University of Lincoln! Their solid Theory of Change is laying the foundation to scale their Body Happy Schools programme in the coming year.   💡 Sean Harris FCCT from Tees Valley Education is making collaboration a core value. Their PLACE project is not only fostering impactful partnerships but also championing the fight against inequality by “ganging up on the problem, not on others.”

Walter Copan, Vice President of Mines Office of Research & Technology Transfer represented Colorado School of Mines at the recent Future of Challenge-Driven Partnerships conference at University of Cambridge.    The conference focused on answering the question, “What needs to be done to enable multi-stakeholder partnerships involving universities to significantly accelerate the development of breakthrough innovations aimed at tackling urgent and complex grand challenges?”   This is a timely and important question because many current and emerging challenge-focused initiatives are large-scale and require teams that include academic, government, and industry collaboration to take on the world’s critical challenges.   #InnovationWithImpact

I am looking forward to co-leading a table with Sandro Carnicelli at the upcoming Hackathon of Policy Ideas on 12 and 13 December at the University of the West of Scotland . We believe failure to create space for new skills, new theories, new science and new technologies will stagnate Philadelphia even further. We believe few lead many and the impact from their collective output will outlive us. We believe diverse and multi-generational leaders who hold a rainbow of voices on important social policy and civic issues will move our region into the forefront of evolving social change. We believe a diverse and multigenerational polyarchy injects stability in social activism, promoting gradual and constructive evolution rather than sudden revolution, ensuring a check against radical pressure to destroy institutions to address immediate problems.
