The US Army’s Rapid Capabilities and Critical Technologies Office (RCCTO) and the U.S. Navy Strategic Systems Programs (SSP) have successfully conducted an end-to-end flight test of a conventional hypersonic missile. The test, carried out at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida, is a significant milestone in the development of advanced hypersonic weaponry. “This test builds on several flight tests in which the Common Hypersonic Glide Body achieved hypersonic speed at target distances and demonstrates that we can put this capability in the hands of the warfighter,” said Secretary of the Army Christine Wormuth. The success underscores the rapid progress of hypersonic technology and its readiness for operational deployment. This marks the second successful end-to-end flight test of the All Up Round (AUR) in 2024 and the first live-fire event for the Long-Range Hypersonic Weapon system. The test utilised a Battery Operations Center and a Transporter Erector Launcher, advancing the weapon system’s readiness for field use. The U.S. Army Ballistic Missile Defense Systems Command transfers the one-of-a-kind Perimeter Acquisition Radar to the U.S. Air Force, Aug. 22, 1977. Constructed as part of the Safeguard missile defense system, the PAR phased array radar was designed to support long-range intercepts of intercontinental ballistic missiles. Originally created as an early warning radar, its role evolved under the area defense concept to provide initial target detection, discrimination and tracking for long-range Spartan intercepts. Having proven its space tracking capabilities with satellites and other space points during Safeguard testing, the PAR remained operational following the termination of the BMD system. Subsequent modifications prepared the system for new missions as the PAR Attack Characterization System and later the Space Detection and Tracking System. The PAR remains operational today as part of the Space Force. #TBT

The US Air Force has partnered with Canopy Aerospace to develop hypersonic missiles that use a transpiration cooling system, similar to human sweating, to prevent overheating and enhance speed. These missiles, flying at Mach 5, face extreme heat, making thermal protection essential. Canopy’s innovative system releases a fluid from the vehicle’s surface, creating an insulating barrier against heat. 🚀 The US Navy has commissioned General Atomics to further develop its Long-Range Maneuvering Projectile. The five-year contract focuses on advancing and testing the LRMP prototype to enhance the navy’s Common Round offensive strike capabilities, extending the range of existing 155mm artillery systems. “GA-EMS has conducted successful LRMP testing to ensure survivability, performance, and aerodynamics,” said Mike Rucker, head of GA-EMS Weapon Programs. The company stated that it is preparing for LRMP Common Round glide testing at the Dugway Proving Grounds in Utah as a first step in the deal. “The LRMP is truly an innovative design, delivering greater range and maneuverability, precision, and payload flexibility to support a variety of missions, including strike and Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance missions,” said General Atomics Electromagnetic Systems President Scott Forney. #military #army #defense #defenseindustry #security #weapons #generalatomics

🇬🇺💥 The Missile Defense Agency, in partnership with Lockheed Martin, has successfully performed its first live exo-atmospheric intercept of a ballistic missile target using the Aegis Guam System. The test, conducted from Andersen Air Force Base in Guam, involved the air defense system detecting and tracking a medium-range target with its integrated AN/TPY-6 radar. Upon target detection, the AGS launched a Standard Missile-3 Block IIA from the Vertical Launching System and achieved a precise intercept over the ocean. According to Lockheed, the intercept was exo-atmospheric, meaning the target was outside Earth’s atmosphere and likely at the highest point of its trajectory before descending toward its target. #military #army #defense #us #guam #nationalsecurity #airdefense

🛩️🤫 Electra.aero has tested its EL2 ultra-short takeoff and landing prototype aircraft for a Pentagon event focusing on expeditionary capabilities. The three-day, invitation-only field activity saw the system perform live overflights with low acoustic signatures across multiple intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance simulations.
