🐾 Project Coyote joins 80+ organizations calling on Congress to oppose H.R. 9533, which would weaken and rewrite the Endangered Species Act 🐾 Proposed by House Natural Resources Chair Bruce Westerman (R-Ark.), the “ESA Amendments Act of 2024” would significantly undermine this vital environmental law by reducing protections for threatened and endangered species and rewriting critical provisions of the act. The coalition of organizations has highlighted numerous harmful aspects of the proposed bill that would fundamentally alter the 50-year-old law, including: extending timelines for listing decisions while imperiled species continue to decline, fast-tracking delistings, diminishing the federal agencies’ originally intended role in managing listed species, significantly increasing the allowable “take” of threatened species, narrowing critical habitat designations, and more. The Endangered Species Act (ESA) has proven to be one of the most vital tools for addressing the escalating biodiversity crisis in the U.S. This legislation has successfully protected countless species from extinction and has been instrumental in recovering populations that were once on the brink. We must protect the ESA. Join our e-team or The Coyote Collective at ProjectCoyote.org to help us advocate for the ESA and the wild lives who depend on us. ✊🌎🐻 #EndangeredSpeciesAct #ESA #EndangeredAnimals #CompassionateCoexistence
