May is Mental Health Awareness Month DOE's UCOR is addressing through an onsite Mental and Behavioral Health Program Manager DOE Workforce News. May 26, 2024, May is Mental Health Awareness Month, a national observance started in 1949 to bring attention to the importance of mental well-being. Despite recent strides, many Americans still lack access to high-quality mental health care. Consider these statistics about mental health in the United States: - 1 in 5 U.S. adults experience mental illness each year. - Only 47.2% of U.S. adults with mental illness received treatment in 2021. - 1 in 20 U.S. adults experiences severe mental illness each year. - Only 65.4% of U.S. adults with serious mental illness received treatment in 2021. - 1 in 6 U.S. youth have a mental health condition, but only half receive treatment. - 50% of all lifetime mental illness begins by age 14, and 75% by age 24. To address this in the occupational setting, DOE's Oak Ridge Clean-up contractor, UCOR, has hired a Mental and Behavioral Health Program Manager. AltaPointe Health Systems, a primary and behavioral health leader in Alabama, utilizes MyCare Technologies as a mental health co-response tool alongside the Mobile Police Department. Now, access to care has expanded to first responders. The MyCare iPads are equipped with two buttons: a red button and a blue button. First responders press the red button when they encounter an individual in mental distress. From October 2023 to December 2023, there were 574 mental health calls in Mobile, Alabama. Of those calls, 83% were resolved on the scene, proving the effectiveness of on-scene deescalation with remote assistance. The blue button is for officers’ use. First responders often experience significant mental health challenges due to repeated exposure to trauma and high-stress incidents. Pressing the blue button allows officers and first responders to connect to a mental clinician virtually at Alta Pointe. #FirstResponders #BreakTheSilence #BreakTheStigma #AltaPointe #MyCare #CrisisIntervention #MyCareTechnologies #HunterCareHealth

According the SAMHSA's 2023 report, 1 in 3 adolescents received some form of mental health treatment. 1 in 3!! There are a variety of factors contributing to this such as social media influence, academic pressures and increased awareness around mental health. As this number grows, so does the need for skilled, compassionate professionals who are ready to support young people through critical stages of their mental health journey. However, fewer therapists are stepping into residential roles roles. Why? It could be due to the intense, hands-on nature of residential work. It can be emotionally demanding and many therapists don’t feel supported enough to dive into it. At Mental Health Matchmakers, we see this as an opportunity to help fill these essential roles and advocate for work environments that value and support their teams. We do this by: ▶️ Prioritizing Fit: We focus on aligning therapists with programs that support not just the client, but the clinician too. ▶️ Highlighting Opportunity: Residential treatment offers the chance to make a real impact, work closely with clients, and foster deep professional growth. If you’re curious about taking on this kind of role, reach out! We’re here to answer questions and discuss what this work could look like for you. #ResidentialTreatment #TherapistCareers #MentalHealthProfessionals

A step in the right direction... The recent actions under the Mental Health Parity and Addiction Equity Act to lower mental health care costs are a vital step toward improving access to mental health and substance use care. As someone who has worked across behavioral health settings, I’ve seen the impact of making care more affordable and accessible. HR leaders should take this opportunity to confirm that mental health treatment is fully supported in their employee benefits plans to ensure teams have the access they need. Let’s continue pushing for meaningful improvements in mental health care! #MentalHealthMatters #BehavioralHealth #HRLeadership #EmployeeBenefits #Healthcare #Advocacy

WHOOPS! Session in 2 minutes. Therapists, quick vibe check: are you getting enough time for breaks in between sessions? When you’re seeing 8 to 10 clients per day (as one member of our Supervision Insiders facebook community recently said), how do you have time for you?? Therapists, how many clients are you seeing in a day, on average? BIG thanks to @healthinsightcounseling for this one—make sure you give them a follow! . . . . The CSD exists to connect Clinical Supervisors to resources, to new residents, and to each other so that we can change the future of the mental health field. Today I was sent a photo that brought back powerful memories— a photo of me four years ago facilitating a group as the first case manager hired when New Freedom Academy opened at Granite Recovery Centers. That chapter in my life remains one of the most rewarding experiences of my career. I had the privilege of working alongside an amazing team of dedicated professionals, all committed to the common goal of helping individuals on their journey to recovery. Many of whom I am still close to this very day. Those connections have remained incredibly important to me, reminding me of the critical need for collaboration across all addiction treatment centers. In our field, working together and sharing resources is essential to providing the best possible care for those who need it most. I’m grateful for the opportunities I had during that time and for the ongoing partnerships that continue to inspire me. To everyone who was a part of that journey—thank you for your dedication, passion, and support. We are stronger when we work together. #HealthcareHeroes #CommunitySupport #ClinicalOutreach #Gratitude #Teamwork #Networking #HealthcareInnovation #SelfCare #Resilience #PersonalDevelopment #WellBeing #Reflection #MentalHealthAwareness #AddictionTreatment #CommunitySupport #RecoveryResources #MaineOutreach #Healthcare #SupportAndRecovery #MentalHealth #Therapy #MentalHealthAwareness #Wellness #MentalWellbeing #SelfCare #Counseling #Therapist #MentalHealthMatters #EmotionalHealth #Psychology #AnxietySupport #DepressionHelp #Mindfulness #AddictionRecovery #CommunitySupport #Healthcare #MentalHealth #Networking #HopeAndHealing #AddictionRecovery #MentalHealthAwareness #Collaboration #Therapy #EndTheStigma #addiction #addictionrecovery #addictionsupport #mentalhealthawareness

Meltzer Counseling is providing telehealth for all ages throughout Texas. Several in person availabilities in our Richardson, TX offices. Clients and colleagues often inquire about ACT skills. Psychological flexibility or emotional agility often results when applying/learning several ACT skills. Accepting and diffusing from unhelpful thoughts, noticing our thoughts as information, being present/mindful, identifying what is most important and what actions will actually serve us well. Our clinicians are trained in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT): helping clients change their relationship with difficult thoughts, feelings and situations and allow for more space to respond in ways that are more helpful. Reality acceptance, increased perspective and psychological flexibility may not solve all our issues, however they may very well improve our ability to engage in life and relationships in more meaningful ways. Clinicians trained in communication and various types of therapies including cognitive behavioral therapy, DBT skills training, social and emotional learning and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). Clinicians have experience with couples and relationship counseling, anxiety counseling, depression, grief counseling, substance abuse, trauma and anger management.
