📢 A new research paper by Dr. Jill Cancio's team "Acute Surgical and Rehabilitation Management of Complex Hand Burns in Combat Casualties" Involvement of the hands is the leading cause of postburn functional impairment. This paper guides aspects of care necessary for the management of complex hand #burns in a battlefield setting. Proper assessment and establishment of a comprehensive plan of care at the onset of injury help to ensure optimal functional outcomes in hand function. Basic treatment principles for the acutely burned hand include edema management; early wound coverage, including excision of the burn and skin grafting; early and aggressive hand therapy; and burn-scar contracture mitigation strategies. 🔗 Check the full paper: https://lnkd.in/gXsNqUsF

🏋Some important work recently published in British Journal of Sports Medicine (BJSM) led by Kenneth Noguchi, PhD and our group demonstrates the importance of prescribing resistance training in stroke rehabilitation. Notable gains were observed in walking capacity, balance, and lower-body strength, outcomes that were deemed relevant by clinicians and patient partners. Indeed, more work is needed in the early phases of recovery (early-late subacute phase of stroke) to encourage the adoption of RT in clinical practice. More to be done 👀 🔗 https://lnkd.in/eJ_eka3J
