Last month, Energy Ministers introduced the Home Energy Ratings Disclosure Framework, marking a significant step toward a national approach to assessing and improving the energy performance of homes in Australia 💡 🌿 This framework will provide households with an energy performance rating and certificate at the point of sale or lease, promoting transparency and efficiency in the housing market By setting clear policy parameters for governments and offering guidance for developing a supportive market environment, this initiative is crucial in our efforts to meet Australia's net-zero emissions goal by 2050. This framework lays the groundwork for a more sustainable future, where energy-efficient homes become the standard across Australia, aligning with practices in many comparator countries 🌏 🏠 ♻ Read more 🔗 https://lnkd.in/g-dTXxX9 #NetZero #EnergyPerformance #affordability #sustainablehomes

Lots to digest from the NSW Consumer Energy Strategy announced last week. The strategy outlined 50 actions the NSW Government intends to take over the next two years to make it easier for households and businesses to benefit from the energy transition. Highlights for me: - Ambitious but achievable targets (1 million homes/small businesses with access to rooftop solar and batteries by 2035). - New Home Energy Saver program ($239m over 4 years). Details to follow. - Review of and potential enhancements to the Energy Savings Scheme (ESS) & Peak Demand Reduction Scheme (PDRS). - Voluntary disclosure of home energy performance at the point of sale or lease, with a view to making this mandatory. - Development of new model by-laws to help strata complexes overcome the legal hurdle of adding energy-saving technologies. A formal progress update is scheduled for late 2026. Details below.

Large infrastructure projects drive system-wide changes, but the newly released NSW Consumer Energy Resources (CER) Strategy takes a different approach — making it easier for individuals and small businesses to take direct action. It offers practical incentives to do things like switch to energy-efficient appliances or install rooftop solar. While these actions may seem small, when multiplied across the state, they create a powerful ripple effect. Here's what's new and coming as part of the NSW Consumer Energy Resources strategy: - Battery Incentives Households can access $1,600 to $2,400 in incentives for purchasing solar batteries, with an additional $250 incentive for joining a virtual power plant (VPP). (Available from November 2024) - Home Energy Saver Program A $238.9 million investment in the Home Energy Saver program to help lower energy bills and reduce emissions. (Launching mid-2025) - Community Energy Projects A new $5 million program to support community energy initiatives, empowering communities to actively participate in the energy transition and reduce bills. Every little step counts in building a cleaner, greener future. https://bit.ly/3B490iR #NSWEnergy #NetZero #Sustainability #EnergyEfficiency #ClimateAction #SmallStepsBigImpact Dan Repacholi Chad Griffith Penny Sharpe

New Energy Efficiency Disclosure Framework for Australian Homes From next year it could become mandatory to disclose how energy efficient a property is before you sell or lease it. The newly released Home Energy Ratings Disclosure Framework is an indication of reforms to Australia's building industry to become more sustainable. The framework is voluntary for now but that may change when the results are reviewed in 2025. Under the framework, homes will need to undergo energy assessment and be presented with an energy performance certificate and rating. Take this opportunity to safeguard your property and improve its energy efficiency before it becomes mandatory and the demand for builders and suppliers becomes greater. There are plenty of rebates available to help you make sustainability improvements and discounts available through our Rewards for Residents program that can help too. What people are telling us from this survey is that they are not investing to make their homes warmer and cosier because they don’t believe energy efficiency is worthwhile financially for them. This isn't true. Simple measures, such as draft proofing and hot water cylinder jackets, can pay back in less than a year. Some steps are even free such as reducing boiler flow temperatures. Meanwhile loft insulation in a typical home pays back in three years. Even if you plan to sell your house, insulation will improve the EPC and therefore the value of your home, so energy efficiency measures are always worthwhile to cut costs and carbon. Financial support, low-cost finance and obligations on landlords are all key as well as education to encourage behaviour change that tackles the cost of living and energy crisis. #keeptheheat #italladdsup
Today, Energy UK, in collaboration with One Home, unveiled insightful polling results shedding light on the challenges hindering energy efficiency improvements in households across the UK. The polling reveals that in 2023, despite energy bills remaining high compared to historic levels, over two-thirds of individuals took no action to improve their home energy efficiency. Private and council tenants faced additional barriers, with limited scope to enhance the efficiency of their rented homes, emphasising the urgent need for minimum energy efficiency standards in the private rental sector. The polling was part of #EnergyEfficiency Week, where Energy UK has been working with others to underline the importance of improving energy efficiency for long-term bill reduction, energy security, and achieving Net Zero. The poll highlights specific areas for improvement, including better access to financing, information, and targeted support for households, especially tenants. Finance emerged as a significant hurdle, with 35% unable to afford upfront costs. Energy UK's Deputy Director, Charles Wood, stressed that the cheapest energy is the energy that we don't use. One Home’s Chief Executive, Angela Terry, underlined the financial benefits of energy efficiency measures. Simple steps, such as draft proofing and insulation, can yield quick returns and increase the value of homes. Energy UK continues to call on political parties to urgently work with industry to address barriers, including expanding subsidy schemes, improving energy efficiency in the private rental and public sectors, and consider measures such as a Green Stamp Duty to incentivise improvements.

A few years ago, under the Ontario Government’s MicroFit program, we installed this advanced solar system on the Glebe Parking Garage. This installation is a shining example of how solar energy can be seamlessly integrated into urban infrastructure. The City of Ottawa benefits greatly from this system by selling the generated energy back to the grid, creating a sustainable profit stream. It's a win-win situation: clean energy production, reduced carbon footprint, and economic gain. #SolarEnergy #RenewableEnergy #Sustainability #GreenEnergy #SolarPowerExpert #UrbanInnovation #CleanEnergy #Ottawa #MicroFitProgram #SustainableProfit #EnvironmentalImpact
