In 2016, I was living in rural Missouri and commuting two hours each day to find work that paid well and offered benefits. That’s when I found my first remote job, and my life changed dramatically for the better. I could finally attend local activities and be more present with my community. My pay doubled compared to local opportunities, and I found a career I love. This is my ask to corporate America: Consider rural workers for remote roles. This can be a life-changing opportunity for a family, opening doors to careers that might have seemed out of reach. And here’s my ask to all of us: Extend a hand. Help someone create a LinkedIn account. Offer assistance with resumes or job applications. Be a cheerleader for those in rural communities who need that extra push to reach their potential.
