Just back from a great training visit in Suriname! Kudos to the management of Staatsolie for recognizing the professional and personal value of access to learning. The last day of workshop was particularly fruitful and hopefully generated ideas that will stimulate further exploration success ranging from the onshore production areas to the little-explored eastern margin. Hard to find new oil with old ideas! A second shout-out Staatsolie management for taking 'technical control' of their offshore area without which there can be no real understanding of Suriname's future potential resources (BTW they made our Phase 2 report available earlier this year). All too often countries think they can leave that to the IOCs, who are usually poorly positioned to see the big picture since they are confined to the data in their own blocks. Go Staatsolie!

The MPA continues to investigate the cause of the leak and is working to prevent similar incidents in the future. This incident highlights the importance of robust safety measures and emergency response plans in the maritime industry. The maritime industry can take this incident as an opportunity to review and refine its safety protocols and emergency response plans.
