"My name is Harri Eccleston, I am an Illustrator and Designer from the Wirral. My practice focuses on children’s picture books, with exploration into feminist retellings of history and mythology. I am particularly interested in giving voices to unheard women of the past. This course gave me the opportunity to develop my practice through exploration of new mediums such as gouache and collage, neither of which I had used before." - Harri Eccleston, MA Illustration Follow Harri on Instagram: @harriillustrates Interested in studying one of our creative MA courses? Calling all creative educators! I'm delighted to have made a small contribution to this book: The Artistry of Teaching: Practical Ideas for Developing Creative Academic Practice: https://lnkd.in/e-3eaFee Edited by Prof Helen King, this book celebrates the art and craft of teaching. My section (p.128-9) uses my original fashion design discipline as an analogy for the development of teaching artistry and identity. The book is packed full of inspiration and activities to inform your practice from the excellent likes of Curie Scott, Prof. Jenny Lawrence SFSEDA PFHEA NTF CATE, Mike Bryant, Professor Sam Elkington and many more... It's good to be reminded that, whatever your subject area or context, to quote Ken Robinson: "Being a teacher is a creative profession." 😊 🎨

The School of Pacific Arts, Communication and Education (SPACE) started a new literature and art magazine. Known as Niu, it is the first student-focused magazine to be published in twenty years and contains comics, stories, poems, photographs, and articles, mostly by USP students and some staff from across the region. The plan is to release an issue each semester. Here's how Niu started. #TeamUSP #PacificArts #literarymagazine

Prepping for my guest lecture at School of Visual Arts tomorrow in the designer toy class of Jason Freeny ... students get to benefit from a "Cliffs Notes" version of my personal observations and analysis of our industry over the past two decades. Working artists and aspiring toy artists tend to ask me similar sets of questions about how to proceed into their character art careers, so I distilled all of that knowledge down into two main topics which are easily relatable: 1. how to generate interest in your characters and make that human / emotional connection with your potential audience, and 2. how to merchandise your own IP in a logical way that doesn't involve going broke or into debt. I have posted an online version of this lecture here: https://lnkd.in/ejNUeXyw But if you want a PDF version of my slide lecture, feel free to DM me.

2019 թվականին ստեղծված սոցիալական պաստառների շարք։ Պաստառներում հեգնական տոնով անդրադարձել եմ գրքերի կարևորությանը։ Discover the Essence of Books: Social Poster Series | 2019 📖 📚 Employing unconventional imagery wherein book pages are transformed into paper airplanes and ships, I challenge perceptions with the simple yet profound slogan, "The purpose of the book is different." Beyond the playful visuals lies a deeper message: the art of prioritization. Through familiar objects, I urge viewers to reassess their priorities and recognize the true value of literature. These Swiss style posters represent a fusion of nostalgia and modernity, blending recognizable elements from our past with vibrant typography and colors that demand attention. Each piece features subtle reminders to "Use correct!" alongside the names of renowned Armenian poets, subtly guiding viewers towards a path of education and literary exploration.

If there’s one thing my college students know about me, it’s the fact that I despise spelling errors in our work as designers. There’s literally no excuse for spelling errors. Like I say to my Gen Z’ers, it’s not like I’m asking you to pull out a dictionary. Nor does spelling check cost money…it’s literally in every program we use. Yet, here we are. What are your best tips to avoid spelling errors?

It's time to get out your crayons! Or go to a museum or theatre. Or sing in the shower and dance in your living room. Or just appreciate the beauty of the outdoors. Aesthetic experiences help us in so many ways. "Your Brain on Art" provides the evidence and the inspiration. Here are some excerpts: “We know how art, in its countless forms, heals our bodies and minds. We’ve got the evidence for how the arts enhance our lives and build community. We know, too, how the aesthetic experiences that make up every moment alter our basic biology.” “People who engaged in the arts were found to have lower mental distress, better mental functioning, and improved quality of life.” “Really what kids need to learn, they told us, are the ‘6 C’s’: collaboration, communication, content, critical thinking, creative innovation, and confidence. Play and the arts, based on their research, build the 6 C’s.” “John Dewey, a psychologist and an educational reformer who is considered to be one of the fathers of functional psychology, once wrote, ‘Art is not the possession of the few who are recognized writers, painters, musicians; it is the authentic expression of any and all individuality.’” #JudysBookList
