YOUR GPA DON'T MEAN #@~! We're living in a period where we have more graduates than ever. If you have a bunch of candidates who have first class degrees its going to come down to experience to who gets the job. You should think of your university grade as the initial screening part of the recruitment process. If you meet the benchmark employers now want to hear your story and what experience you have. This is why what you do outside of the classroom counts just as much as your degree. Try and get as much experience as you can while your at university. 👇 Internships, placement years, committee roles, extracurricular activities, challenges and awards. A first class degree is no longer your golden ticket to landing a job. #work #uni #tips #motivation

Second year exams have come to an end, and I have officially entered the last year of such an important part of my life, and it does feel like I took my first class yesterday! So, these are some things that I learnt throughout the 2 years of my college life: - Attendance is important: Firstly, No matter what college you are in; whether it be Delhi university or somewhere else, attendance is very important and student’s liniency towards college attendance has a reverse effect on so many things, (like internals obviously😭) -Balance: Three factors: Academics, Societies and Internships. Balance between these three is certainly very important, one thing shouldn’t be prioritised over the other. -Having Fun: College life will never come back and these days surely wouldn’t last long, so having fun should be also prioritised at times (only at times). All I know is, no one can be perfect at everything, do what you love to, focus on what you want to do and have a little fun doing so! Ps: Linkedin giving me the motivation to post more content be like: 🥰

I recently had the privilege of engaging in a deep and insightful conversation with the Head of the Training & Placement Cell, VGU, and the Director of ACIC VGU Foundation. Initially, our discussion revolved around my preparations for entering my dream company, but it quickly evolved into a broader conversation about the keys to career success. A significant portion of our discussion was dedicated to understanding the in-demand skills required in the current job market. We explored how students can begin cultivating these skills early in their academic journey. This naturally led us to the topic of internships, which emerged as a crucial bridge between academia and industry. Internships are not just a stepping stone; they are a vital platform for gaining real-world experience, applying theoretical knowledge, and developing a professional network. They provide students with exposure to the challenges and dynamics of the workplace, which textbooks often cannot fully capture. Moreover, internships play a critical role in reducing the gap between what is taught in classrooms and what is expected in the industry. This practical exposure helps students understand industry expectations, enhances their employability, and often serves as a direct pathway to securing a full-time position. The conversation underscored the need for academic institutions to emphasize and facilitate internships as a core part of the curriculum. By doing so, we not only enhance the skills of our graduates but also ensure they are better prepared to meet the demands of the ever-evolving job market. I walked away from this interaction with a renewed focus on my career goals, armed with valuable insights into the importance of discipline, skill development, and the transformative power of internships. I look forward to continuing this dialogue in our next meeting and further aligning my efforts with these principles. Great to connect with our mentor Dr. Dhiraj Singh Sir #CareerGrowth #JobMarket #SkillDevelopment #Internships #Discipline #Consistency #VGU #Learning #ProfessionalGrowth

Graduating isn't just about earning a degree, it's about the experiences and skills gained along the way. Throughout my studies, I prioritized gaining practical experience because I believe that true learning happens beyond the classroom. It's crucial to remember that in today's competitive landscape, anyone can earn a degree. What sets you apart is how you apply yourself and continuously strive to learn new skills. I've embraced every opportunity to expand my skill set, from internships to side projects, knowing that each experience contributes to my growth. As I embark on this new chapter, I carry not only a degree but also a wealth of hands-on experience and a commitment to lifelong learning. Remember, it's not just about what you know; it's about how you apply that knowledge and adapt to new challenges. #hwpo

Never let your university or college name define you. I have seen so many students who are insecure about their university or college they have graduated from. They carry this insecurity for many years. A 3 hour exam with 180 multiple choice questions cannot define you as a person. The grad school application process and the university where you get in, cannot define you as a person. Human potential is way higher than that. A top university or college can open doors for you. But what happens after that door opens is entirely upto the hardwork you put in. That hardwork is independent of the college or university. If you are reading this: keep working hard, keep working on projects, internships, research publications. It does not matter in the long run which college you belong to. Human potential is way higher than a rank given based on fixed metrics.

According to a report from the Business-Higher Education Forum (highlighted in an article in Inside Higher Ed), there simply aren’t enough internships to meet the growing demand from students seeking career-building experiences. This shortage of internships can limit opportunities for students, particularly those from underrepresented backgrounds, to gain valuable real-world experience. https://lnkd.in/emnZBj8e At UC San Diego, we’re leaning into the power of our Student Employment Program to fill this gap! Through work-study and on-campus employment, students are not only earning income but also gaining critical skills and career preparation. A 2023 report from the American Association of Colleges & Universities (AAC&U Innovate) highlights that employers value work-study experiences just as much as internships. https://lnkd.in/ea77kAyW This approach is more than just about preparing students for their future careers — it’s a tool for closing equity gaps and providing opportunities for all students to thrive in today’s competitive job market. #UCSanDiego #CareerReady #StudentEmployment #WorkStudy #ExperientialLearning #CareerDevelopment #EquityInAction #StudentSuccess #TritonStyle

Reflections on the IAESTE Panel Webinar: “STEM Internships Reimagined – What Does the Future Hold?” I recently attended an insightful IAESTE panel webinar featuring global experts like Matt Byrnes and Dr. Khagendra Dhakal. The discussion offered valuable perspectives on the future of internships and how they can better serve students. 📝Key Takeaways 1️⃣ Integrating Internships into Education: Internships should be tied to academic curricula, ensuring students gain relevant experience thus allowing schools can adapt their learning structures. 2️⃣ Balancing Skills: Both human-centered (soft) and technical skills are vital. Here in TCI, the National Internship and Apprenticeship Program (NIAP) equips students with six key soft skills identified in the 2017 National Skills Audit. 3️⃣ Student-Centric Approach: Employers must design meaningful internship experiences by creating thoughtful, student-focused work plans. 4️⃣ Adapting to Technological Change: Organizations should prioritize internal training to up-skill or re-skill their workforce in response to technological advancements. 5️⃣ Fair Compensation: Paid internships are encouraged, with wages that align with the country’s living wage. 🇹🇨The TCI Perspective At NIAP, we’re proud to champion a student-first philosophy. By creating meaningful, compensated opportunities that align with national goals, we’re not just building careers—we’re building a stronger, more skilled workforce. Internships and apprenticeships aren’t just stepping stones; they’re pillars of human capital development, essential for the growth of individuals and nations #HumanCapitalDevelopment #Internships #WorkforceDevelopment #STEM Webinar Hosted on Nov/27/2024
