🌍 NOVA IMS Takes on Climate Challenges with FARCLIMATE Project 🌱 Responding to the urgent issue of climate change, NOVA IMS proudly joins the FARCLIMATE Project, funded by the Horizon Europe program. The project aims to develop and expand climate-resilient measures, making them accessible and understandable to all, while addressing social, political, and economic barriers. FARCLIMATE actions will be implemented in at least 20 regions and communities in Europe, focusing on transformative solutions to achieve climate resilience. 💡 Led by Professor Tiago Oliveira, NOVA IMS Information management school will study consumer behavior across Europe, using structural equation modeling to understand factors influencing acceptance of change. #NOVAIMS #DataWithPurpose #ClimateAction #FARCLIMATE #ConsumerBehavior #HorizonEurope

Nature-based solutions (NBS) to #climatechange are becoming increasingly central to #climate action plans because of their multifaceted benefits and potential for immediate scalability. A new MCSC white paper explores the classes of #ecosystem intervention that present these opportunities to mitigate climate change — and explores different yet complementary sides of the multifaceted measurement and NBS conversations. #regenerativeagriculture is critical to achieving #decarbonization goals, but it is difficult to estimate #carbon reduction potentials in a cost-effective way. A stellar team of Massachusetts Institute of Technology researchers with support from the MIT Climate & Sustainability Consortium (MCSC) have published a white paper on the uncertainties and data gaps in soil carbon sequestration potentials. They worked closely with MCSC member companies who have identified gaps in this space because they want reliable soil carbon sequestration estimates to decarbonize value chains and support robust voluntary carbon markets. Reliable and low-cost measurement of soil carbon is critical to advancing nature-based solutions to #climatechange. The paper highlights some gaps and solutions.

Climate Forward! PlanIt Forward’s global network of experts can provide risk assessment and adaptation planning for climate impacts on nature, natural capital, infrastructure, and vulnerable populations. Dr. Patrick Crist https://lnkd.in/gWrBQixU has been a leader for over twenty years in assessment and planning for climate change. Integrating climate considerations with other assessments, planning, and carbon projects is key to our approach. For example, Dr. Crist led multi-disciplinary teams in assessment for 4 ecoregions for the Bureau of Land Management and 6 coastal regions for NOAA/NFWF. PlanIt Forward worked with Duke University to assess and generate adaptation priorities for 6 mid-Atlantic and Northeast States and James Cook University to assess and plan for the Kimberley Watershed in Australia. You can view some of this work at https://lnkd.in/gsx3KA-t and access many reports at https://lnkd.in/gMA_CjcT. Below is an example for the Humboldt Bay Initiative (California) showing strategies based on assessing current, near term, and mid term threats from development and sea level rise on ecosystems, species, human development, and agriculture.

I had the pleasure of co-chairing the expert roundtable process and co-writing the Resilient Aquatic and Terrestrial Ecosystems theme (section 4.3), alongside amazing colleagues from Parks Canada, Environment and Climate Change Canada, and Fisheries and Oceans Canada / Pêches et Océans Canada, in the newly published Climate Science 2050: National Priorities for Climate Change Science and Knowledge Report. This report "identifies and prioritizes the most pressing climate change science activities needed to inform forward-looking, effective, and targeted actions." https://lnkd.in/eB566rxj Denise Joy @Amie Black Rik Van Bogaert Sara Lewis @Emily Smits @Valerie Wynja #climatechange #climatescience #knowledge #ecosystems #report

As we face the most pressing issue of our time, it is imperative that we come together to address #climatechange. Since the Industrial Revolution, Earth has warmed by 1 degree Celsius, about 2 degrees Fahrenheit. The impact has been significant - 2023 was the #hottestyear on record, and all 10 of the hottest years on record have occurred in the past decade. I had the privilege of participating in an International Conference on Climate Change, Disaster Management, and Environmental Sustainability organized by Jamia Millia Islamia. During the conference, I #presented on the topic 'Impact of Climate Change on Agriculture'. It was an incredible opportunity to interact with experts working in this field. Let's continue to work together towards environmental sustainability and combat the effects of climate change. The conference was a great reminder that we can make a meaningful impact when we collaborate with experts in the field. #climatechange #internationalconference

💥Exciting news! An #EU version of Climate, Land-use, Energy and Water Systems (#CLEWS) model, is ready and online! 💡The #CLEWS framework aims to understand how #production and use of #food, #energy and #water resources can contribute to #climate_change, and how climate change may affect resource systems. 🔎#CLEWS_EU is one of the 6️⃣ #IAMs, updated and expanded by DIAMOND, using a similar structure to the #Global_CLEWs model, adding several enhancements like: ✅ including a broader range of #decarbonisation options (#hydrogen), ✅ employing a more explicit representation of #water demand and supply, ✅ defining land uses at the EU level #CLEWS_EU is a user-friendly model representing the #EU as a single node that can significantly boost capacity development activities on #EU #climate_policy. A second, disaggregated model on the #member_state level will also be developed to provide an extensive spatial resolution. You can download the #CLEWS_EU aggregated version here: 🔗 https://lnkd.in/dWkZ3Up7 With CINEA - European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency #climatediamond #IAMs #CLEWS_EU #climate_policy
