When you're new to an association board, it can be tempting to jump right in. Taking a step back to make sure you have time to learn what the governing documents contain first is a great way to start. It may feel overwhelming in the beginning, but the more educated you are on how things run, the better you will be at handling your role on the board.

📔For our current issue of The Journal, our Design + Communications Lead Eriko Hattori and Finance + Operations Director Candace Opper did an in-depth profile on our work with CCAC. For this consulting project, TASC provided artwork to The CEIT at CCAC, CCAC’s new Center for Education, Innovation & Training. Many of the pieces in this new building were either commissioned or provided by those with connections to the institutions, whether it be as an alumni or member of the faculty. ☝️Head to the link here to learn more about this project and how it highlights the importance of labor recognition: https://lnkd.in/gaNrNqv5

In June, Groundswell began piloting "bridging #dialogues" in partnership with Joseph Hari. The process builds bridges of #understanding across #ideological divides. We started with inviting #liberal and #conservative participants, because why not start with the biggest divide! :) Eventhough, this may not seem possible in our nation today, we learned that it is. Here's some of the feedback: "I had heard of this workshop, but THIS exceeded my expectations." "Productive, enlightening, respectful. Conversational barriers were broken down." "Do more events!" "I feel like I've made new friends!" "This was great. Felt like it was a safe space to be honest, open and curious." "Excellent program. I will help promote the program." "Need more time :)" Our next session is at capacity, but another will open in January. What would make you want to join a program like this? What would get you to support it? Let me know! #buildingbridges #bridgingnotbreaking #belonging
Last weekend, the OC Bridge-building Initiative hosted 8 participants from different sides of the political aisle for a special bridging workshop. Their feedback was overwhelmingly positive. Here's a sampling: "I had heard of this workshop, but THIS exceeded my expectations." "Productive, enlightening, respectful. Conversational barriers were broken down." "Do more events!" "I feel like I've made new friends!" "This was great. Felt like it was a safe space to be honest, open and curious." "Excellent program. I will help promote the program." In reference to the workshop's length, "Need more time :)" 100% of participants "Strongly Agree" that they would be interested in future events or dialogues that continue the work done at the workshop. 100% of participants indicated that they would recommend this workshop to friends and family. The goal of the workshop was to get a better understanding of the perspectives of those with political views different than our own. We sought to find common ground to help us start bridging the divide which has separated us during this particularly polarizing time in our country. Does this sound like something that might interest you? Stay tuned. Details for the next workshop coming soon!
