Happy Birthday Akira Suzuki (born 1930) 🎂 Today, we celebrate the brilliant japanese chemist Akira Suzuki, recipient of Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 2010. 🥇 Major Contributions 🔎 - Suzuki Reaction (Suzuki-Miyaura Coupling) : A powerful method for forming carbon-carbon bonds by coupling aryl halides with organoboron compounds. - Mild Conditions : The reaction works under relatively mild conditions, making it versatile and compatible with various functional groups. - Applications : The Suzuki reaction has enabled the synthesis of complex molecules, impacting drug discovery, electronic materials, and even natural products. PS : I have personnaly used the Suzuki Coupling a few times during my time in the lab to design many different kinds of arylaldehydes ! ⚗ #Chemistry #OrganicChemistry #AkiraSuzuki #SuzukiReaction #NobelPrize #PalladiumCatalysis #DrugDiscovery #Innovation

Catalysts for "Green Chemistry" in Vietnam - Cooperation between Rostock and Hanoi At the Leibniz Institute for Catalysis in Rostock, LIKAT, Quyen Phung Phan Huyen from Vietnam is developing photocatalysts that are activated by light alone and drive chemical reactions. In the area that the chemist is researching as part of her doctorate, which involves special redox reactions for pharmaceuticals, a continuous supply of heat, often at high temperatures, has been required to date. full text: https://lnkd.in/eS4_S3K6 full text in german: https://lnkd.in/e65E3x36 (picture: LIKAT)

Nice work of Campinas Electrochemistry Group in collaboration with Prof. Angel Cuesta. Long story short. -We got inspired by this nice paper by Markovic and col: https://lnkd.in/dyjRARWW - We got several microscopic insights by performing FTIR in situ in the ATR mode. - Among other findings, we got a rational and logical explanation for the cation-induced differences in activities in the voltammetric profiles for several alcohols and polyols. - Take a look here: https://lnkd.in/d--9Wsgz Center for Innovation on New Energies Instituto de Química - Unicamp Rafael Vicente Victor Yukuhiro

Happy "late" Birthday Tributes to Pioneers in Chemistry ! 🎉 I was too busy taking time "away from LinkedIn" yesterday July 14th so I could not post about these important chemists birthday ! 🎂 André Louis Debierne (born 1874) : Radiochemistry 💡 He discovered actinium (Ac, element 89) and his work laid the foundation for further advancements in the study of radioactive elements. Ei-ichi Negishi (born 1935) : Organic Chemistry🧪 Celebrated for his development of palladium-catalyzed cross-coupling reactions, Negishi's work revolutionized organic synthesis, earning him the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 2010. Geoffrey Wilkinson (born 1921) : Inorganic Chemistry ⚗️ He is renowned for his research on sandwich compounds like ferrocene and his work in homogeneous catalysis. Awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 1973, his discoveries continue to influence modern chemistry. #Chemistry #ScienceHistory #Radiochemistry #OrganicChemistry #InorganicChemistry #Innovation #July14th #HappyBirthday
