Empowering the Future: Volkswagen's Commitment to Education in AutomationIn an era where the landscape of work is rapidly evolving with automation reshaping career paths, the importance of integrating advanced technology into educational curriculums has never been more critical. Volkswagen Group Africa (VWGA) is at the forefront of this transformation, demonstrating its commitment through significant contributions to technical education.
Recently, VWGA has endowed Daniel Pienaar Technical High School in Kariega with a state-of-the-art automation cell, providing students with invaluable hands-on learning experiences. This facility includes sophisticated equipment such as Kuka robots, comprehensive control panels, and essential safety installations, all aimed at mirroring real-world industrial scenarios.
This initiative is part of a broader strategy to bridge the gap between current educational programs and the future demands of the global job market. Bernd Schaberg, Head of Production Planning at VWGA, highlights the shift in their operations towards higher automation and the corresponding need for skilled professionals capable of managing such advanced systems.
The school’s principal, Kola du Toit, emphasises that integrating technology and automation into their curriculum not only enhances technical skills but also fosters critical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving among students. This approach prepares them to navigate and excel in a dynamic and technologically driven environment.
Volkswagen's investment in educational tools and partnerships with local technology leaders underscores its dedication to nurturing a generation equipped to lead and innovate. As we look towards a future dominated by smart technologies, initiatives like these are essential for empowering young minds and shaping the leaders of tomorrow.

Could "Made-in-China" attain the status of "Made-in-Japan" in the 80s?
The high-tech movement in China is a pivotal point in Asia's industrial revolution, a maturation of decades of "apprenticeship" and "tuition" paid via being the supply chain of the world. What could branch out of this class-leading EV position? Advanced robotics? next generation communications? How does US compare (https://lnkd.in/g4Jb4uZb)?
"The popularity of Chinese EVs in Southeast Asia seems to indicate that China is getting increasingly recognised for technology development and high-tech products, as opposed to the old impression that China is merely the "world factory” where “Made in China” is seen as shorthand for cheap and low-value-added goods."

Singapore is about to prove the world wrong again! 🇸🇬
Hyundai has built the country's first auto factory in over 40 years! Right in the heart of one of the world's most expensive cities.
Early in my career I worked as an apprentice engineer in an Ericsson factory. I spent six months working in each department, learning the business from the ground up.
It was one of the best experiences I've had.
Conventional wisdom says manufacturing in high-cost cities like Singapore is a thing of the past. But I love it when conventional thinking gets flipped on its head!
Traditional auto manufacturing is about linear production lines and mega-sized factories; the bigger, the better.
The goal?
Standardization, economies of scale, and specialization are the keys to success in the race to build the biggest, most efficient factory.
Mega has become Giga.
But here's the thing:
→ There's an opportunity to do the opposite.
→ When others zig, we zag.
Hyundai is doing just that. They're pioneering a new manufacturing paradigm in Singapore by going micro, not mega.
This microfactory may be small, but it's packed with cutting-edge technology:
→ Autonomous robot dogs patrol the factory floor.
→ Robotic arms handle the assembly with precision.
→ AI monitors every step, ensuring quality and efficiency.
And instead of a traditional, linear production line, this factory uses a cell-based model that offers:
→ More customization.
→ More automation.
→ More flexibility.
→ Fewer workers are needed per car produced.
It's a bold move; time will tell if it pays off. But what I love about this story is that Hyundai is zagging while everyone else is zigging.
They are even competing with themselves!
This kind of thinking inspires me to look for opportunities where others see obstacles and spot new paradigms where others see the status quo.
These are the future leaders and the businesses to watch, follow, and invest in.
Have you seen other examples of zagging when the world zigs?

Introducing kids to innovation early is crucial for several reasons. Early exposure to innovation fosters creativity and critical thinking, skills that are essential in today's rapidly changing world. When children are encouraged to explore, experiment, and solve problems from a young age, they develop a mindset that embraces curiosity and adaptability, which are key drivers of innovation.
Ultimately, it helps cultivate our next generation of thinkers, inventors, and entrepreneurs who will drive progress and improve the world by #solvingwhatmatters. They will build a lifelong passion for learning and exploration…
I also cannot understate the importance of encouraging young girls to pursue careers in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics), it is essential for fostering innovation and equality. Historically underrepresented, women bring diverse perspectives that drive creativity and problem-solving in these fields and must be encouraged to pursue whatever it is that sets their soul on fire…no limits !
