Exactly one month from today, Ghana—just like the United States—will head to the polls. In conversations with people across various age groups, some common sentiments emerge: • “Why should I wait in a long queue to vote for someone who’ll just misuse our funds?” • “What difference does my one vote make?” • “The system is broken; it won’t matter.” • “I don’t trust any politician to fulfill their promises.” But here’s the truth: the very reasons you may feel discouraged to vote are the same reasons you must! Not voting only allows these frustrations to persist unchallenged. I’m not here to campaign for any party, but if we genuinely want to build the Ghana we envision, we have to get involved. Voting is not just a right; it's your responsibility as a citizen. The future holds promise, and together we can create a Ghana worth inheriting! Prepare for the elections and prepare prayerfully! #GhanaDecides #VoteResponsibly #FutureOfGhana #DemocracyInAction #CivicDuty

Ghana prepares for one of its most consequential elections tomorrow. Here are 5 things I want to share 1️⃣ Your personal success will still depend on your efforts, regardless of who wins. → Sorry to say this, but “No politician is coming to save you.” → Leadership matters, but the outcomes in your life depend on your choices, effort, and resilience. → Politicians can create policies but cannot control your discipline, vision, or personal drive. → Focus on self-improvement, education, and building skills that will allow you to thrive regardless of the economic or political climate. → Vote wisely by choosing a leader whose vision aligns with your values, but remember, they cannot deliver prosperity to your doorstep without your active participation in building your future. 2️⃣ Do not Sacrifice your life for a politician → Ghanaian politicians are not enemies. → Having visited Parliament several times, I can confidently say they debate policies, share mutual respect, and even dine together when the cameras are off. → Do not be deceived into disrupting the peace of our country. → Violence, ballot box snatching, and confusion are not acts of patriotism but setbacks to progress. 3️⃣ Do not fight a battle that does not benefit you or your family. → Be informed and reject manipulation that leads to violence. → Elections are not an opportunity for chaos or violence. → They are a platform to express our collective will as a nation. 4️⃣ Respect the choices of others. → Every Ghanaian has the right to vote based on their convictions. → Our strength lies in embracing diversity of thought and coexistence. 5️⃣ Let us reaffirm Ghana’s place as a model of democracy. → A peaceful election is both our responsibility and our legacy. The future of Ghana depends on our collective commitment to peace and progress. Choose Peace! #GhanaVotes2024 #PeacefulElections #LeadershipForTheFuture

The Pre-Election Solidarity Mission entailed a series of meetings and briefings with key election stakeholders including the Electoral Commission of Ghana, the NCCE GHANA, the National Peace Council (NPC), the CHRAJ GHANA, the Coalition of Domestic Election Observers, the Institute of Democratic Governance; the Civic Forum Initiative (CFI), the WANEP_Regional (WANEP-Ghana), the New Patriotic Party and the National Democratic Congress. We commend Ghanaians for their peaceful conduct in the pre-election phase and call for continued engagement in the electoral process as the people remain sovereign in Ghana’s democracy. As West Africa Democracy Solidarity Network and West Africa Election Observers Network - WAEON, we believe in democracy and continue to call on Ghana to remain a beacon of hope in consolidating democracy within the West African sub-region and Africa as a whole. Why the NPP Refuses to Accept Defeat: A Critical Reflection on Their Democratic Commitment. By Mohammed Amin Saeed, Director of Election and IT, Kwabre East As Ghanaians continue to strengthen their democracy through free and fair elections, one question looms large over the New Patriotic Party (NPP) after each electoral defeat: Why do they refuse to accept the outcome? Time and again, we’ve seen the NPP lose presidential and parliamentary elections, only to hear the same refrain from their leadership—blame. They claim that the electorate didn’t turn out to vote for them, or worse, that the system was somehow rigged against them. But as a political party that claims to uphold the principles of democracy, it is time for the NPP to look inwards and ask themselves: Why did Ghanaians vote them out when they believe they’ve worked so hard? A Commitment to Democracy? The NPP has long touted itself as a beacon of democracy in Ghana. But their actions in the aftermath of each defeat raise serious questions about their commitment to the democratic process. Democracy, at its core, is about accepting the will of the people, even when the results aren’t in one’s favor. Yet, the NPP’s refusal to accept defeat paints a picture of a party that is more interested in clinging to power than in truly respecting the people’s voice. Time and time again, we’ve witnessed the NPP's reaction to election results that don't go their way. Instead of introspection and self-reflection, their rhetoric often shifts to excuses: low voter turnout, alleged manipulation, or claims that voters were “misled.” This is not the behavior of a party that is confident in its policies, nor one that is truly democratic in spirit. It’s a party that’s afraid of facing the truth that the people of Ghana no longer want them in power. https://lnkd.in/dzXcefcS H.E John Dramani Mahama LinkedIn
